Good Luck to you OP! Go over the next truck with a fine tooth comb when it is ready for you to pick up. They need to treat you like royalty since they screwed up so bad the 1st time. Don't settle for anything less than perfect.

Agreed with you that dealerships are not in business to lose money.

That said, this was the dealer's screwup and they have to fix it..they could fix it and I bet if they had done it right away not only would OP have taken it but been a loyal customer.

GM pulled the same crap on me with my 06 Colorado, which had the infamous cylinder head issue. The dealers first tried to say there was no warranty, then after certifying it as a failed head and eligible for warranty replacement decided 4 weeks later to not replace it unless I paid for it. The second dealer screwed me out of 2 grand for a "free" job and said GM will reimburse you. GM wouldn't and said the dealer could have asked for it. The dealer said they lost money doing the head as a warranty so tough shit for me with my 5 yr old truck with 78K babied miles and that this is "normal for this truck". Yeah..

Pretty much sums it up. If they have been straightforward and honest from the beginning, I would have been happy for them to do the work to make it right and drive it away. But they didn't, and the paint scratches and their handling over it was the straw that broke the camels back.

My wife and I are very pleased with the sales managers attitude and his attempts to salvage a deal and earn our business. This is another factory order given the colour and trail teams package, but at least the wait will only be 2 months instead of three this time ;) So, 5 months total.

The lengths we will go to for a Tacoma I tell ya..

So... Obviously you didn't read my post close enough. I wasn't responding to the OP. I was responding to the person that said they went to 4 different dealerships before they found the truck they wanted. They stated their credit report took a hit.... presumably because they had a check done at each dealership. What I stated in my post was correct. Never have a credit report pulled until you decide on the final price of a vehicle that you want. The dealership that I bought my truck from had pretty close to 100 Tacoma's on the lot to choose from (very large dealership) so I didn't have to custom order one. We settled on a final price and then and only then did I allow them to pull my credit. If my credit had not been what I said it was then obviously the deal would have changed but it was and there were no issues.
Now that said, I mentioned nothing about a custom order truck. Of course they will check your credit before ordering your truck and rightfully so. I would expect no different then if you were ordering custom parts for me.

Go back and re read what I posted and who I was responding too.

Just MY $.02 worth again ;)

    To the OP.

Good move on sticking to your guns. Sorry about the additional waiting period but at the end of all this crap you will be much more pleased with your truck and your decision.

Everybody deserves a second chance, even a car dealership.

    IMHO

    Best of luck.

We should start a listing of all these sub par dealers by state so that other die hard Taco owners and potential buyers don't get stung by them.

The sad epilogue to this story is that you know they are going to try & pawn off the OP's origninal truck to some unsuspecting customer for top dollar. We can only hope that person frequents Tacoma World. :)

I would have turned it down. If I ordered a 50k truck with a certain cover (that I didn't get) and leather seats (that were not in the truck) and the paint is supposed to be scratch free (and it wasn't) , I'd be upset knowing that I CAN get the cover I wanted, the leather seats I wanted and scratch free paint for the same price.

that's cool, i just wouldnt turn it down over that, the leather seats were on their way, a cap is ugly no matter what, and id put worse scratches on it from the rocks kicking up on the road as soon as i drove it home anyways. just my opinion, good for the OP for sticking to what he wants.

What do you mean " the leather seats were on their way " ?

When it comes to things such as automobiles, espically if you order it a specific way, I would expect it as ordered. Otherwise why order it in the first place?

Unless the things that were wrong were an upgrade at no extra charge compared to what was ordered or if the changes were compensated with a lower price tag.

I understand what you are saying, but in my case, I felt I had to turn it down. Just not worth my hard earned money to get something that was damaged.

If anyone in Canada happens to be looking for a similar truck (TRD Sport, DCLB, Trail Teams package in Nautical Blue) I will be happy to share the VIN number via PM to ensure you aren't buying this truck, or if you are, you get a discount.

They were on they way, it is just a leather package that Toyota offers in Canada but it is a port or dealer install. They just remove the cloth and replace with leather, they aren't complete units. But the truck was supposed to come with them installed.

If anyone in Canada, specifically the province of Ontario read this, and are looking for a blue TRD Sport in Nautical Blue, feel free to PM me for the VIN number of the truck that has the scratches...
