I removed my front bumper this weekend and installed an Elite Off-road front bumper. Here's how I removed the front bumper. It was my first time doing this so if there's a better way to do things please chime in:)

I started out by removing the grill, this is done by removing the 2 screws and 2 clips on the top of the grill. (The picture shows the passenger side clip and screw, its the same on the drivers side)
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144196&stc=1&d=1332802595

I didn't have a clip remover so I just used a flat head screw driver to pop up the head of the clip, than pull the clip out.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144199&stc=1&d=1332803486

    The removed clip.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144200&stc=1&d=1332803603

Once the 2 screws and 2 clips are removed pull the grill straight up. It is held down by 2 clips so it takes a little force.

The bumper skin is held in place by 7 clips like the grills clips (3 on top and 4 below the bumper), 6 screws and 2 other clips (little different in style located 1 on each side, inside the wheel wells.

Remove the 3 clips on top. (2 of the 3 pictured)
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144202&stc=1&d=1332804294

Remove the 4 clips below the bumper skin. (2 of the 4 pictured)
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144205&stc=1&d=1332804425

Remove the 6 screws. (2 below the bumper skin are pictured)
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144207&stc=1&d=1332804701

Here's a picture of the other screw (inside the horse shoe shaped hole) located in the wheel well, the other clip is also in the picture which you'll have to remove.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144208&stc=1&d=1332804985

Tape the bumper and below the headlight to avoid scratches during removal.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144209&stc=1&d=1332805235

Now pull the bottom of the bumper skin upward, than jiggle each side of the bumper until it releases. You gotta hold your teeth right but it'll come off.:D

Here's a few pictures of the bumper after removal.

If you need to remove the bumper sub assembly, remove the 6 nuts.
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=144217&stc=1&d=1332806094

I had to pound a screwdriver in-between the aluminum sub assembly and the steel frame numerous times on both side to get it to release from the bolts.

see the other posters pics above....I just copied them

clips are all under the bumper (see the blue ones). if you can reach them by hand while it's mounted have at it. if you can't - Just an FYI the bumper removal is VERY simple to do. Something like 4 screws and a couple clips. I had mine off in less than 30 minutes to put my lower grillcraft in many years ago.

Thanks for this thread, this guide worked perfectly.

The original bumper skin on my '07 had been repainted (poorly) by the previous owner, and the clear coat and paint started to self-destruct. I finally got lucky on Craigslist with a user silver bumper skin in very good shape that I found locally for $45.

Removal and installation of new bumper skin took me 2.5 hours, including cleanup.

    A few extra tips:

    1. Before doing the job, you may want to buy a few extra grill clips, bumper clips, and wheel well "screw" clips. I ended up breaking a few popping them out, many were stiff with dirt/mud. FYI, the grill clips are longer than the bumper clips (at least the ones on the bottom, a bunch of mine were missing from the owner's previous repair).

Also I think "screw" like clip in the wheel well must be turned 1/2 turn counter-clockwise (so that the "cut" in the top of the screw is vertical) before popping it out.

    2. To remove the fog lamp, just twist the rear connector about 1/4 to 1/2 turn counter-clockwise.

    3. When removing the bumper, on each side near the bumper flares, there is a small metal hook that the bumper plastic clips into. Be careful popping these up and out, because the plastic of the bumper is small and weak in that spot.

    4. To remove the entire fog lamp assembly (easiest after removing the bumper skin altogether), push the tabs in on the black plastic retainer that surrounds the fog lamp adjustment screw (at the bottom of the fog lamp), then while push in the 2 black tabs at the sides of the fog lamp assembly (they stick out into the bumper plastic), push the whole thing out towards the front of the bumper.

    5. Before reassembling, clean all plastic parts well using a good plastic cleaner + protectant like 303 Aerospace Protectant, including all of your bumper clips...how often will you be in here to clean anyway?

Reassembly works perfectly in reverse order, without headaches.

I'm attaching some photos of the results.

FYI, I was looking thru a few online Tacoma fiches and I had trouble finding where the bumper clips and grill clips are listed. Finally tracked down a fiche that shows it clearly:

    http://www.villagetoyotaparts.com/s...=2007&ukey_driveLine=6162&searchString=bumper

    Part #52161C AKA 52161-02020 AKA 52161-0K040 AKA 52161-16010

They sell 'em on Amazon and Ebay as well for less, like here, 20 pcs for $6.50 + free ship:
