What does everyone think of the trail gear front bumper on second gens? I'm thinking next year ill do front and rear tube bumpers.

so good news is i dont have to spend any money to fix my gears...bad noise is i can't fix my gears. andy listened and confirmed its the gears making the noise. they have worn in correctly, either from being set up badly in jasons truck, or something not being quite right from when i did it with konsta. so either way they will continue to hum and i will just live with it until it gets really bad then i just have to get new gears. could be a month or a couple years. who the hell knows.

 

He is going for it it sounds like. His is a street queen anyway so whatever.

 

I don't completely know what I am talking about here... haha but could it just be that the gears weren't set up quite the same as they were set up in Jason's truck? So like the wore the way they wore for him and then Konsta set them up and it wasn't the exact same as they were set in Jason's truck so they wore some more and the two wear patterns are conflicting with each other just enough to cause the noise?

 

kinda. that actually makes a lot of sense, thats much the same thing andy said as well. they wore differently in jasons and i put it under enough pressure and abuse in moab that it brought an underlying issue out where is can be wearing too deep or shallow. or the crush sleeve was not crushed enough or too much. there are a ton of things that can cuse it. might have been low on fluid and over heated from when my oil leaked out from the seal. andy said bottom line is its not a big issue till it makes a ton more noise. he said no problem going to lander with it the way it is.

 

I drove mine to Moab and all through Moab and back with it whining like a banshee! It survived fine, just drove me nuts so I replaced it. There was a knick in the ring gear that was in the contact pattern with the ring gear so I didn't like that either.

 

haha well mine isn't that bad. just a hum that is just loud enough to hear if you pay attention. praying it just stays the same and i get a few more years out of it lol

 

Get your spare diff back. Then just carry that. Problem solved.

ya. he has a 8.4 rear

i have an 8 under it currently

i have the third, its not in the axle but it wont fit in the housing i have now

Nope. He has a lockrite or something, with a stuck pin so he might as well be welded in the rear.
