They *should* be changed cold, but if you're having difficulty getting your plugs out when it's cold, it's worth trying when the engine is warm to take advantage of expansion of heated metal to make them easier to remove. It's worth noting though that you SHOULD NOT reinstall plugs in a hot engine, as it will then contract and lock the plugs in. Instead, remove the plugs a few threads from the heated engine and wait for it to cool before pulling them out all the way and installing the new ones (leaving them in while you're waiting for it to cool just helps keep your cylinders clean ).

If you're like me and replacing the plugs in your truck after a dealer did them many thousand miles ago and didn't use anti-seize, this method can be helpful.

Is there any type of gasket on the plug that needs to be replaced? I know there is a gasket on the coil that contacts with the valve cover, but is there anything between the coil and plug? Do you guys replace the gasket on the coil as well?

 

No gasket between coil and plug, just reuse the coil gaskets. Just a crush washer between plug and block/head, new plugs have them already.

Sorry I have been searching and cant find what the Gap needs to be on a 2005 2.7?

Also there wouldnt happen to be a write up like this for the 2.7

 

Prolly is, but it's all basically the same stuff only you're lucky enough to only have 4 plugs inline and less crap to move.

 

Yeah I just pulled off everything and I saw this. Pretty bad ass though I would rather move more crap and have a v6 lol

I just changed mine out at 68,000 for the first time. Way over due, but not too bad.

 

Ok its almost time for me to do 30k maint, Anyone have a easy way to remove sparkplugs on driver side under the SCer? W/O removing the SCer?

Well changed them that was easy enough and switched out the miss fire coil #2 with #1. The maintenance required light is still flashing about 10 times but no codes are coming up on my reader. But I did disconnect the battery so it may take a bit. I guess if cylinder one missfires then it is the damned coil. When I did a ohms test on that coil the resistance was jumping around. How long yall think I can ride a bad coil?

 

Is it really worth waiting? You can ride all day on one less cylinder (start backfiring like a mother if the ecu keeps cycling the injector), but what's to be gained?
