    *Sigh...*

Am I stupid for considering this? My Prerunner is in great condition with 53k miles. The 04 has about 89k miles and is also in nice condition. I love my truck, but I always did like the smaller body style and am really wanting to buy a new bike(KTM 350EXC-F), but don't want to take the direct hit on my finances.

    Pros? Cons? Cool story bro?

I wouldn't...if your truck runs good and you don't have problems with it, why would you trade it for something less valuable, that may have reliability issues sooner.

Short term, you get your toys...long term, you loose equity...if you can afford the bike, get it...if you have to beg borrow, and trade in your stuff, you can't and you're setting yourself up for failure.

Need more info on the 04. If it's a low mileage TRD double cab then it might not be much of a hit, if any. Those low mileage 04 double cabs are SELLING for 16k quite frequently it appears. I see the 04 keeping more value then the 09 as the years pass. Last year of a favored body style vs. a run of the mill 09.

Well.. "Afford" is kind of a funny word to me. I paid cash for the truck. Always pay cash for vehicles and don't owe money to anyone. I have never traded or sold a vehicle before completely using it up, so that idea is a bit foreign to me as well. Money is there, but my thinking is I get a more capable truck with a clean record, then get bike and be out a few thou at most. As opposed to dumping the whole $10k on the bike.

It's just a thought, though, and I appreciate everyone's viewpoints.

Is it really that big of a downgrade?

It's non TRD, but I don't exactly do anything that a regular SR5 couldn't do anyway.

If you were somewhere other than southern ca, and actually needed 4x4, then it sould be more of a consideration.

No, I started riding when I was a teenager and bikes were my only mode of transportation all through the 90's. I just feel like I'd have more fun on a platable dirt bike than with my truck when out on the trails. Plus the whole 65mpg thing is nice, too when around town.

Maybe get a used bike? I had a yzf600r that I bought for 3k it was 05 with less than 5k miles on it. Was a lot of fun. Not as kewl as the newer generation R6 but still a very capable bike.

If you get a used truck and it does have issues it's going to hurt your wallet more than fixing your used bike.

If your 09 isn't giving you problems I think it would be a safer to just get a used bike.

Yeah, that's definitely an option. Will have to start looking around, I guess. Good modern style, truly off-roadable enduros are really hard to come by, though. people either never want to sell or they are snapped up and turned into supermoto bikes. That's why I was just looking for something new.

I was initially looking at a CRF250L, but am now pretty much set on a KTM 350 EXC-F. To get the Hondz up to the level I want it, it would cost the same as the KTM, and even then it would still never be as good. Honda needs to make a 450 version to attract more experienced riders, because KTM has that segment nailed.
