The quad cab tundra has a 6.6ft bed. It's also just as spacious on the inside as a Taco double cab. You don't "need" a crew-max.

I looked at that but was still up in the air on the size and the blind spots from the rear pillar.

I have always got a four door, Quad cab, or what ever the brand is to have the most room for my dogs and or gear in the back seat.

That was the reason for the need of room, the dogs.

On the other side when I buy a full size truck, I want a full size bed.

Most all the other brands as of last check offer a 8' bed...
That is why they call it a full size truck.

    Have a '07 sport v6, 6 speed.
Love it except i cant put my 4wheeler (650lbs) in the bed without it bottoming out. Ive owned alot of cars & trucks in my life, but this is my first truck that i cant use as a truck. By the way i have owned other toyotas.

First thing I did when I bought my 2011 was order a full OME setup. Tested it out awhile back with 1000lbs of sand, truck didn't even flinch, just rode a little smoother.

Every vehicle has its quirks, Tacomas just have notoriously worthless rear springs.

Any loss of off road performance?

When I bought the full kit it ran me $1,000. Extended brake lines all around were another $100+.

3" of lift from a time tested company? I think I improved my off road performance a tad bit. ;)

Yep that is what mine did with less, then moved to a trailer and you can not tow in drive. Also the MPG went to crap to tow an ATV on a trailer.
Friends have full size Dodge and Chevy and both blow me out of the water on MPG on the same hunting trip and one tows a bigger trailer.

But when you spend 30-36K on a truck you would think it would haul or tow 50% of what it is rated and not need to rebuild all the springs and put another 1000-2000 in it.

I've owned 2 Z71's and neither got the mileage they claimed to get. I also wouldn't have a Dodge if you gave it to me. I wouldn't care what kind if mileage it got but Dodges are rarely known for their good gas mileage anyways.

Agreed, Toyota screws the pooch on that point. But, for $1,000 I lifted my truck (because I was going to anyway) and fixed the weak spring problem. I also bought mine new for $28k, knowing damned well the turd package isn't worth the money when I was going to install better components than those that are included with the turd package.

And now I can haul and tow in my DD with better fuel mileage than a V8.

Nothing for nothing, but i dont consider not being able to use my truck as a truck as a quirk.

Would you freight a Colorado or a Ranger? Same thing. Tacos are small pickups, not 3/4 ton. But what do you mean? I use my truck as a truck, a family wagon, and my personal toy.

Again, i cant put my 4wheeler or a full load of firewood in the bed. Thats what i got it for. I am just starting on a OMD spring mod, so hopefully that will solve my load carrying problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx

I can't even remember running on OEM springs. After blowing through two leaf packs on my 95 I knew I would never ever run them.

    This mod? http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/suspension/194386-tacoma-spring-refurbishing-5.html

If you've got the time to source donor leaf packs and the time to play around with the leaf combination than I say go for it. It may take a little extra time to find that right balance (leaf combination) for ride comfort/flex while unloaded as well as when loaded. (you should take really good notes and pictures, a thread that details what exactly you did and what results you achieved could really help a lot of guys out)

My truck is my DD, so I went straight to Dakars so I could get them in with minimal down time. They are designed for overlanding, to optimize flex and load carrying ability (5 leafs and 2 overloads). A good counter example would be the All-Pro springs, which are designed for more flex but really can't handle being loaded. I also happened to run a set of Dakars on my 95 Taco and knew the abuse they could take.

Loading an atv in the back of a truck is a pain in the ass anyways. I just use my trailer for my atv, commercial z-turn, or anything else really heavy I need to haul. Come to think of it 90% of the atv's I see around here are being hauled on trailers being towed by all size trucks, even HD's. maybe buy a 5x8 or 5x10 single axle trailer? I paid for the towing package so I'm damn sure gonna use it.

The longer I own it, the more irritated I am about the little things Toyota left off.

    No bed light? Really?
No lock on a removable tailgate?
    No locking glovebox or console?
No locks on the bed compartment?
No provision in the dash/console for a brake controller?

All minor stuff, but you know it was left off to save a few bucks. The other brands have most of these things, so why not Toyota?

Yeah, I forgot that one. Really, on a truck this expensive, you'd think that would include some of the "extras".
