I have a 2004 Tacoma 4x4 with the standard size 265/70/16 tires. I have been through quite a few different brands of tires and the tread life is horrible on my truck. (my truck has been aligned and I rotate my tires every 5,000) My latest set that is still on my truck is the Firestone Destination A/T's which have about 27,000 miles on them. They are so bad I can't drive in the rain without my 4x4 activated because I either cant get traction or the rear keeps sliding out around corners.
I understand this is a light truck in the rear end but there has to be a solution for this. I have played with different psi in the tires and landed on about 37psi in the rear and its a little better but still have to use 4x4.
I am looking at Cooper Discoverer A/T3 to try next and would really appreciate anyone's opinion on them or if they have any ideas of what else I can try.

37 is too much. go with the pressure on the door for factory size tires. I wouldn't run over 32 psi.

Yeah I am out of ideas. At 27,000 miles these things should be at only half their life. At 32psi my truck was down right dangerous to drive in the rain. I have had a truck for the last 20 years so I am not new to this either.
I took my truck to Firestone when it was raining and the manager came out to look at it. He said he would take it for a ride to see what I was talking about. He made it about 500 feet down the road and my truck slid out around a corner and the guy about crapped himself. He said he had no explanantion and that they would give me 50% towards new tires but they marked up the price of the new tires so much it was still around $600 so I walked out.
I don't understand how some guys can say they have no problems in the rain and other guys with the same truck, same tires, say their truck is absolutely horrible.
