I tightened the shackle? (the part that the leaf spring attaches to closest to the rear bumper, which in turn attaches to the frame) in order to get the shackle to line up with the bolt holes, then forgot to take off the tension. I'm fairly certain this is my problem.

The rear hasn't had any weight on it yet, as I'm leaving it on stands until I get my UCA bolt installed, then straight to the dealer for an alignment!

Hey Fellas, I need an opinion.

Currently, my truck has a 2 inch Procomp lift on it installed by a PPO. The rear springs are toast (bent stock springs w/AALs), so I will be replacing them with a set of Dakars. However, lately it's been bugging me that maybe I ought to do the front coils and struts as well (stock coils, I think, with Procomp struts and a 2 inch top plate spacer). I had originally planned to go with a Toytech 3 inch spacer lift for the front, but now I'm trying to decide if I should just bite the bullet and get the complete OME 3 inch kit with 881s and rear leafs.

It's a cost difference of $714 over my initial plans and could mean sacrificing some other stuff I wanted to do (cheaper tires, not replacing my CV axles, not having a new clutch on hand when the current one decides it's had enough).

It rides okay now, but the truck is sitting pretty level even with the saggy, bent rear springs, so I'm wondering if maybe the front springs aren't sagging as well. Looks like about 3/8" between the coils (I can just slide the tip of my index finger in between them) when the truck is sitting on level ground. Not sure what it's supposed to be like though.

So please help me out here. Obviously, the OME coil-overs would be the best way to go performance-wise. But would it be worth the extra cost and sacrifice just for the peace of mind that I've got new parts up front that I shouldn't have to worry about for a good long time?

    :help:

    Thanks

Yes, the whole new OME suspension will be well worth it, especially if your truck has a lot of miles on it. I can't tell if your a first or 2nd gen...I'm on my phone.

1st Gen with 177k on it. Not sure how much of that is on the Procomp struts though. Pretty sure the rear springs are toast because the PO used it as a dump truck.

^^ if you think that a lot on the oem suspension. dad’s ’00 extend cab 4x4 tundra has over 2**k on it and none of the suspension has been replaced. and it has been worked hard. has towed 3 cars. one of the times it towed a 300ZX on a trailer, had an atv in the bed along with clothes and coolers for 3 people from TN to NY 655 miles. I’m pretty sure it was over loaded the whole time. The leave springs are flat, they don’t have any arch to them any more. has had loads of mulch higher then the cap probably 8+ times.

also glad to see someone(well not really glad) but to see people having problems with putting stickers on the sliding rear window. I was thinking about putting something on mine. may still do it, I only open it maybe like 5 times a year.

edit: hey colin. do you know what the hight inside your trailer off hand?

I put sticker on my previous 2nd Gen .. Only opened it ONCE and out popped the seal
If you must have a sticker, I suggest it goes on the inside of glass ;)

    ok good to know.

I thought about getting that kit to make it powered. but I still don’t think i will open it much at all so i don’t feel or really want to spend the money on it. the very few times 5 times or less a year that i open it, i can just pull over or open the back door and reach over and open by hand. I have not even had it open 1 time this year. I think i opened it like 3 or 4 times last year.

The sticker will grab the seal and pull it out of channel when you go to close the window
No matter how many times I tried, I could never get the seal to stay in the channel after that happened
Luckly I was under warranty , so Toyota paid for the $500+ rear window assembly

My rear leafs look like (~). They look axle wrapped with the truck sitting still on level ground. The front coils...I just don't know. Not sure how to tell if they are sagging or not. Like I said, right now, at rest, they have about 3/8" between the coils, but I don't know what they are supposed to have when new so that could be perfectly fine.

The benefits of going with the OME coilovers on the front are pretty clear: longer spring and strut so I don't have to worry about bottoming out the spring before the suspension hits the bump stops; potentially better ride quality; probably more durable. I could probably also delete my anti-sway bar with the OME coilovers to get better flex, which I'm hesitant to do with the current set up.

I know what the best option is as far as what will work best, I'm just not sure if it's worth giving up some other things because I suspect the current front coils might be tired.

Only you can determine if it's "worth" sacrificing other things.. IMO yes it's worth it, but no suspension is any good if your clutch gives out and you can afford to fix it

Kinda like these guys that spend thousands on rims and speakers, while their crown vic is smoking and knocking
You don't wanna be one of those guys

Your truck is 16 years old....the coils are worn out.

The OME kit, or even the bilstein 5100 and eibach coil combo will be well worth it (the bilstein/eibach combo is a bit cheaper, FWIW)

^^ the BGF A/T lasts a long ass time! buddy has them on his FJ. he had the stock 265/75r16 and they hardly worn at all. but now that he has a lift he has 295/75r16 and they still look new after a year. and me and him both, take corners kinda fast/hard.

they are pretty good in mud, but real good in dry weather, rain, and even good in snow. idk about sand.

Hadn't considered them - will have to take a look. Thanks!

The BFGs are actually cheaper, surprisingly. I had them years ago and they were great 90% of the time, except in rain. That is the only reason I hesitate with them.

I have heard that the DuraTracs are noisy, but that's really the only negative I've heard so far.

Thanks for the input so far, guys!
