Some people give some really piss poor advice when they have no clue what they are talking about.

This is why some people should not give advice on forums.:pccoffee:

    Read the OP's last post.

I also have a 2013 Tacoma, that little box and corresponding blue light is part of the factory alarm system.
His is not properly programmed and the dealership informed him of that.

    Mine is.

When properly set up......after you lock the truck that blue light flashes telling the "bad guy"......my truck alarm is set.
When the truck is properly unlocked the light goes out and disables the system.

But hey it's up to the OP to listen to these rocket scientists and start chopping wires from what I am assuming is a brand new truck.

    Good Lord...........

Nope, I'm not a Rocket Scientist, but I have been installing for 7 years and know exactly what these wires do. There should be 4 wires on back, 2 for the led and 2 for the valet switch. When I suggested to cut the wires, its because I know for a fact it won't hurt anything, and because OP didn't ask how to fix it, he asked how to make the light stop. I assumed that since he didn't even know it was part of an alarm that meant it probably wasn't working anyways do there is no needed for it. Once he said the dealer is going to fix it and it's a brand new truck then obviously I changed my recommendation. So before you start calling me a retard and talking shit you should probably get all the information. I'm sure I know a whole hell of a lot more about alarms and vehicle electronics than you do, I'm petty well qualified to give advice for this stuff.

The title of the thread is "turning off the alarm light?". 7 years experience and your go to is cut wires before programming properly? Remind me not to have work done by you.

Yes that is the title, and cutting the wire would turn it off wouldn't it? If you read my post, I said to unplug it, and then I said if you can't unplug it, then it won't hurt anything to cut it. Its not needed if the alarm isn't being used and is a safety hazard if its flashing in his face while driving. So bottom line it it needs to be off. This is why I was simply stating that if all else fails, cutting won't hurt anything. I did not realize its a brand new truck nor did I know the dealer was going to fix it. Every tome I've seem that box and the person doesn't know what its for, its always from an alarm the dealer never took out or from a previous owner. Its useless at that point so cutting it out is fine. But like I said, since the dealer is actually gonna program it, then obviously don't cut it, like I said before. Anyways, enough justification from me. You guys can talk shit all day its not a problem with me. If you knew half as much about mobile electronics as me you would know my recommendation was perfectly fine. Your the same guy that was talking shit in the last thread too, you must be one of those internet tough guys everyone's been talking about  good luck with that.

Seriously? Is that what they taught you at
    "BestBuy Car Alarm Installers University"?

You gave some of the most uninformed, uneducated and potentially damaging advice I have read on any forum in quite some time.

    Congratulations.

This is not the factory alarm but a dealer installed unit. I also have a 13 with the same thing screwed on.

I purchased the factory alarm from Toyota and installed it. while installing the Toyota alarm, I traced the wires back to the control box from this black box and saw the connections for myself. There is no way this thing is from Toyota. I was pissed to find out this was some add on from the dealer. The idea that they would screw something on to my new truck still makes me mad.

I Have that alarm, its set in disabled mode or something, you need to hold the button down till it beeps and your good.

I assume you tried to disable the horn when arming the alarm? thats not the correct way to do it. somewhere someone posted the correct way to do it, i dont remember how.

What is the issue with this alarm vs a Toyota alarm? Also why would you go to the trouble of removing this one and replacing it? Must be something you really don't like about it?
I would like to understand your reasoning behind the swap. I know nothing about vehicle security systems.

    Here's what I do know.

My original point was that nobody should advise others to "cut wires" of any type without complete understanding of WTF they are talking about. Not the OP....but others with less common sense may just start snipping away.

    That.... I will stand by.

The finance guy told me to come back to program a chip. I assumed it was something else and not the alarm. Anywho, I went there today and they fixed it for me! Blinks in blue when locked with alarm set and is turned of as soon as the engine starts. I guess the programming of a chip was indeed for the alarm. Thanks for all the input!

Glad the OP's question was answered.

    To Marc-
I am with you on the not cutting wires. In fact I didn't cut the wires I found.

My main problem with this alarm was that the dealer had installed it and messed with the factory wiring without asking me. I had to wait to get the Truck I wanted and did not want them messing with it. I wanted an alarm either the factory so my OCD wouldn't go crazy, or a quality aftermarket I could research. I have no idea what brand the one they added is. Didn't mean to come off like an ass.

Those alarms get installed at the dealer when the the vehicle arrives, unless it already has a buyer. Once the vehicle sells, its up to finance to try and sell you this outrageously priced add-on. If you refuse, they usually leave the alarm I'm there and just don't give you the remote for for it. The alarm is so cheap there is no need to uninstall it. Then customers get stuck with this no-name cheap "alarm" that doesn't work and takes up space, and the customer can't make it functional because since its some cheap unlabeled off brand, you can't get a remote for it. Hence the reason why I suggestion to cut that stupid box off because it is 100% useless and unfunctional anymore. When people go to add a new alarm, that thing gets ripped out anyways.

So you said "I know nothing about vehicle security systems" and then you said nobody should give advice "without complete understanding of WTF they are talking about"

So if you don't know shit about alarms, and I know enough about alarms that I could list what each and every wire does without looking at a manual (about 50+ wires) how in the world does that give you the right to tell me I don't know wtf I'm talking about??? You just contradicted yourself major! Might wanna review your own theories and opinions as well. I know for FACT that cutting those wires wouldn't hurt anything. I'm pretty dam well qualified to give advice about alarms, and apparently your not, so until we have a disagreement about something we are both familiar with, you probably shouldn't be telling me my advice sucks when I'm the only one who knows what the hell I'm doing. Doesn't make sense how you seem to think you know it all when you already said you don't know shit. But OK. I'll go give advice about lifts or something I really dont know shit about since that seems to be working pretty well for you.

    Major! That's cute.;)

I contradicted myself, how so? I never claimed to know about alarms, did I? I just said your advice sucked and I still believe that to be a true statement.

You have a forum member that bought a new truck which happens to have a random light that stays on. He comes here in good faith asking for assistance from what he believes are knowledgeable people.

Instead of saying, "Hey OP, I do alarms everyday, I'm not sure what your situation is but I'd be happy to look into it for you." That would have been a stand up guy thing to do. Your first thought is, to tell this guy to cut wires from a truck that has 7 miles on it!!

Apparently vehicle security is your profession?. You call that helpful and professional? Well young man, I don't.

I don't know shit about the Space Shuttle either but I certainly wouldn't cut a wire because a light stayed on.

I seriously don't give a rat's ass what you think about me. You have already proved many things about yourself. But this is fun, what else you got?

Hey, do yourself a favor. Copy and paste this thread, print it up, put it in a safe place, then read it again in 20 years. You'll get a laugh out of yourself.

    Have a great day.
