Yeah I gave up on trying anything bigger than a 2.1". I have been so pleased with this bike. It's a 2007 that I bought used in 08 and Ive hammered the shit outta it and never a problem. I have it built relatively burly with crossmax SX, 145mm fork with 20mm thru axle and a dropper post and its around 28 pounds. Kinda like the Taco it's built to do it all. I've hammered Amasa Back and Porc Rim and all day Midwest singletrack epics and it seems to do well with it all. I keep lusting over all the 26 pound carbon 6" travel wonder-bikes but I'm just not sure the $6,000 price tag will gain me that much:confused:

Thanks man. I think its a good bike for me, seeing how I'm a beginner. When I get better I'll upgrade to something better.

I’m not a hardcore rider like some of you guys, but I picked up a Trek Cobia in March. Just more for recreation and getting outdoors more. Did some research before, decided on a 29er.

NICE man! I wish I had stock in Enve. A few years ago that brand seemed a novelty. Now it's all over the place with the increasing popularity of carbon wheels.

LOL. Yeah I always carry my 9mm when riding back woods epics, but if a big ole critter like that actually decided to come after me I'd probably curl up in a fetal position and cry like a lil girly

Thanks, after a long 8 hour overnight shift at my new job, I went out and took it for a ride. This bike very different than the Next bike I was riding. A lot lighter, the 21 speed is a lot more useful than 18 speed. The only thing that I wanna change is the seat, when I was leaving the 1/4 mile path to the parking lot was a little to much I ended up walking the rest of the way and the suspension fork is a bit too soft. But other than that its great.

I picked up a 2013 Trek Mamba 29er about 3 months ago. First mountain bike, and I figured it'd hold up better underneath my 6'7" 265lb body than the Specialized Hardrock Disc I planned on buying. Frame geometry much better for me, too, feels a lot less cramped. To be fair, I rode an XL frame Speshy, and bought the XXL Trek.

Love it, though, and don't ride enough.

Thanks! I'm glad I picked it up. The Trek store locally has been really awesome, too, and has tons of outings they put on.

Only wish is the disc brakes had a little more stop to them, but I figure they would be fine for someone half my size. Or maybe if I get my shit together and lose weight!

I have a trek as well as my only bike. The mechanical discs stop me and I'm 230. I have to adjust them before most rides though. I do miss my hydraulic discs on my other bikes.

Mine are hydro. I might see if they can be firmed up whenever I get around to it. They stop fine but I wonder if the time comes where I need to make a sudden stop on pavement, if I'll end up eating rubber and asphalt.

I'm sure they're sounding worse than they are in reality, I'm just used to the insta-stop brakes of my teenage days. Skiddin' for days..

Get them adjusted. The hydros should be no problem stopping on a dime. And they are loud most of the time. I can tell haw far my buddy is behind me by listening to his brakes haha.

QFT! Dude is unreal. Major bike pr0n.

Thanks for the heads up! I didn't notice it so much on my test ride, but around town where it usually matters most and where 90% of my riding is. Definitely have it looked at when I take it in to get the readjustments.

The performance of the Hayes Dynos are not that great. I had a Cobia and had swapped them out for Stroker Trails and green pads. You could have them bled but I would assume the LBS did that during assembly. Other than that there really is no other adjustment to them. The levers break pretty easily and are not a replaceable part. Ask me how I know.

I'd like to think they broke before you hit the trail.. (possible :rimshot: ??)

They work fine enough for my uses, definitely no need to replace. Unless I get ran over because I can't stop soon enough, then I guess I could think about it after the fact. I'm 90% pavement, 10% flat dirt.
