    The outside wall has a 2x4 laid flat as a header. The gas seals on the slider and French doors have failed due to the glass doors taking the weight of the roof. My inheritance is going into a whole new roof, deck and a garage...in that order.

    Basically Oz, I'm making sure I have nothing left,as far as the money thing goes.

    My father in law is my contractor. Not only is he a world class skier, but he builds some pretty impressive homes. He doesn't do as much of the timber frame stuff as you do, mostly Austrian Chalet style. Like you (it appears), he does it all himself.

    My house is kind of an old farmhouse (shithole comes to my mind, but my wife loves it), but I will try to keep progress pics up...though I'm at my day job while he is here working!

    By the way, what you see in the pics is what was under the shingles! The laminate beam will hold up the front of the roof while the back is deconstructed. There will also be a lam as the header at the back of the house. New slider(s), ceilings etc.

    I can't tell you much more, I'm just an HVAC guy...though I can drive a nail into wood, I just don't know why I'm doing it:)
