    I don't have a torque wrench so I used a wrench. Mine were not very tight. I could get a half turn before they were really tight. I gave them a good tight snug. I'm assuming mine were at 37 ft-lb since I was able to get 1/2 turn out of the bolts before it was tight.

    Just wanted to add my experience. In stock form on my 2012, I had a small vibe in the 40-60 area. Then I threw on a 2.5" leveling kit up front to clear my 285's. The vibe increased. I purchased a tapered 1" block for the rear and at the same time saw this thread. So sure enough, when I went to take my u-bolts off, they were loose. So I throw in the lift block and tightened them sob's down to 85#. Go for a test ride and it is smooth as silk all the way up to 80 mph.

    So from my experience, tightening the u-bolts to 85# removed my driveline vibe. Even on a lifted truck (which is said to increase vibes).

    I voted "Tight as they should be" but I misread the poll. I should have voted "loose". Mine were indeed too loose.

    I still stand on my position , no way do I buy the 37ftlb. torque thing being right, Toyota still uses crap for springs...

    For reference: 1st gen Tacomas are spec'd for 90 ftlbs. on Ubolts...
    2nd gens are spec'd for 37 ftlbs.

    Why the huge diff. in numbers ? Rationalize this to me & maybe I'll at least listen to Toyota's explanation...

    It's strange that Toyota specs 37 lb ft for this part. And when I checked mine a couple of months ago, sure enough, they were not very tight. The spec seems unreasonable to me, so I tightened them up.

    It wouldn't be the first time Toyota did this. Look up the head gasket problems on the 3rd gen Supra because of under torqued bolts.

    I found mine were extremely loose as well. I tightened them up to 90 ft-lbs.

    I put some Dakars on and was rechecking torque tonight after about 60 miles.
    I followed the FSM but used 85 ft/lbs on the u-bolts. FSM says, torque in the air, which I did.
    Checking tonight, with vehicle on the ground, u-bolts were "loose". Took them back up to 85 ft/lbs.
    What gives?
    Imagine this procedure being followed with 37 ft/lbs...

    All suspension components should be re-checked after 200 miles or so. I also, personally, tighten once on the ground.

    Why in hell would they say this is beyond me & wonder what they meant by "in the air".. I tighten Ubolts in "real world" situation, on ground with all vehicle weight on axle...:notsure:

    I think its time to shitcan the FSM if these are the best recommendations they can come up with

    I torqued mine to 75 Ft-lbs with Toytec AAL's installed, is that tight enough, what does everyone think about this setting?

    Finally got around to checkin' my U-Bolts, only to find the poll closed :confused:

    2010 A/C V6 Auto 4x4 23,000mi 3yrs+

    Broke nuts free w/2' Breaker Bar so I wouldn't be torquing a seizure.
    Broke loose 'bout 1/8 of a turn.
    All 8 immediately "clicked" upon tightening w/torque wrench set @ 73 ft/lb
    My vote: "Tight as they should be"

    Didn't really have much vibration, nor did I change anything.
    Suspension is stock.
    My U-Bolts were tight.

    I wouldn't put any faith in that poll, half the guys that said they were tight as should be , I know for a fact some of them had their suspension done before hand... But all I want is for everyones to be tight, so good job...:thumbsup::thumbsup:

    I was there when Dougy proved it to me. Was replacing the leafs on a guy with stock leafs, untouched...they weren't hand tight, but damn close...put a short socket wrench on one and a quick effortless tug had the nut spinning right off.

    Needless to say I went and double checked all my fittings lol

    I know it sounds anal but I re-torque all my suspension shit every time I change my oil. Including the drive shaft. Its a good practice and only takes 5 minutes. You can generally find a 20-150ft lb click type half inch drive from sears on sale for $40 every couple months.
