Same vehicle, same driver, same driving patterns (highway mixed with twisty mountain roads).
Temperatures were a variable, but not a huge variable... I don't ride when it's over 100 or below 50.

BTW: The RP run was May and early June. 2000 miles, it sheared down to a 30wt.
The following 6000 miles for the rest of June, July, and the first part of August were the Mobil-1 V-Twin... had just dipped into the high 40wt range after 6000 miles.
Hotter weather for the M1 than the RP, and more extended highway riding (higher sustained engine temperatures... as in 8-10 hours/day).

Mobil 1 full synthetic from Walmart for $23 a jug and a $4 OEM filter from ebay matched with half hour during my lunch break at home every 5K miles. Works for me.

Too subjective.... Honestly, it is whatever you feel comfortable with.... Oil is oil is oil to a certain point, it does the same thing within the engine... I personally use Mobil 1 as it is readily aviaible, and usually a bit cheaper. Whatever you use, would highly recommend synthetic.

Although its spendy Royal Purple is what my Taco gets. You got to admit purple oil is pretty sweet looking.

T6 is a good oil, but it's 5W40. Ran it in my last 2 Ram/Cummins. Doesn't your Tacoma call for 5W30, like mine?

Ahh, it's such a small difference, it really doesn't matter.

Just considering the warranty aspect, then it might, for those still under warranty.

    '13 4.0 calls for 5w30?

2.7 has used 0w20 or 5w20 for a long time. The oil cap on my '08 calls for 0w20 or 5w20.

Sho-nuff, Rich. Both the manual and the oil filler cap show 5W30.

Anyone ever try Motul? I've always run the 300V in my STi.

5w30 CONVENTIONAL oil for the 4.0. Because it's dino oil I can see the 30 because of higher underhood temps with the 4.0 maybe? The 2.7 doesn't crowd the engine bay like the V6 does.

I'm not sure why they don't call for synthetic with the 4.0, why not go with the same oil for both motors. They both use the same oil filter. The 2.7 has more oil capacity than the 4.0 so maybe that has something to do with it, dunno.

As cold as it gets here, no way I stick with conventional oil in the motor. Changed out all the gear lube to synthetic also.

I see a lot of you are for mobile 1, I was told at an Autozone I should use 5-20, does that sound right to you guys? This will be the first oil change I do on it since I bought it at 13k and I'm just now getting to 15k. It's the 2.7 btw.

Best motor oil is always a loaded question. It is hard to go wrong as long as you follow the recommended viscosity and change it at regular intervals. Pick a brand you trust and use it. If the vehicle calls for synthetic and you use dino juice instead it will not die an ugly death but you should probably change it sooner than you would with synthetic.
    My 2cents.

    2.7 takes either 5w20 or 0w20

Never used it in the truck, but my brother runs Motul for his gear boxes on his Sti.
It seems like a lot of people here run Mobil 1 in their trucks.
