So i have a base model tacoma with non-jbl base stereo. I upgraded to a 2013 touch screen non-jbl stereo. The bluetooth music plays cherry, my US spec plays cherry, and antenna finally works after getting the right antenna adapter.

I want to make phone calls with this head unit......what do I need? Do i just need the mic or do I need an entire blue logic system....any help would be appreciated.....

Just pair your phone to the system. Dial on the touch screen. Mine works great , conversation pipes thru the speakers and there is a mic somewhere.

    not sure if you understand...

My truck is a base model 2012...so it didn't come with bluetooth phone calling....

I bought a 2013 stereo which has the bluetooth in the deck, but there is no mic to talk through.....so do I just need a mic or do i need the entire blue logic system?

and if its just the mic- is the only way of buying one to buy the entire blue logic system...cant seem to fins the mic listed for sale anywhere...

My mic is located in the overhead console between the interior lights. I do not know if the systems is run through the trucks computer. somethings you cant do.

while driving you can not make a call using the touch pad on the radio. it will allow you to scroll through your recent contacts. press one and off you go.

I do not know what would be needed to hear via your speakers. but maybe buy the mic thats in the overhead console and hook that up and go from there. If you have a good dealer that knows these radios you will most likely will have to contact them..

Yea I have yet to see a thread where the 13 radio fully works on the 12s. You need a mic so you may need to find a wiring diagram for a 13 and find out if you can wire in a mic. The dealership parts dept would be of help to see if you can even buy the mic and wiring,

I think I can get the mic- from there I would just need the harness that plugs into the back which I can get from the dealers. Problems comes into play with the wiring....

I am not sure if all I need is the mic and wire it correctly if I would be good to go. Other than that everything works great with the stereo!

I would suspect if you can get a mic and get it wired in correctly that is all you will need. You will have to control off of the screen since you would not have steering wheel controls.

I don't know what they charge for those units, but doing a 3rd party HU may have been a cheaper/easier option.

Bluetooth part is build into your new radio, so all you need is a microphone and wiring to connect it to your radio.

I believe it is Number 1 in the diagram....

I believe this is the R15 plug for the stereo that the bluetooth mic is wired into...only issue is that there are like 15 other wires in there...
The image was posted in another thread similar to this one...

so if a person gets the 2013 OEM stereo with the mic and a harness...if the wiring could be figured out- then the bluetooh mic would work. That would mean that the radio, bluetooth mic, bluetooth audio to phone- would all work on a 2012 truck.
keep in mind that the steering controls and USB input having different wiring and would have to be figured out. But I don't have that, so I'm not worried about it...

I forgot to post the part number for the antenna adapter. Anyone who wants to run a 2013 stereo in their truck will need a metra 40-lx21 or the metra 40-lx31(which is the 21 plus an 11 adapter). It works perfect and they sell them online for about 10-15 bucks...
