Try wrapping rubber around it, like an inner tube or something then clamp to that. Should help stop the spinning and not eff up the shaft

You can try wrapping the shaft with a piece of rubber and clamping it in your vice as tight as you can.
Anything else and you risk marring the shaft?

I'm on my phone...so yeah I'll just stop trying to help.
Clearly everyone else in this thread is far too obsessed with queer innuendos.

thanks guys! intertube it is... will test and report back.

edit: gave it a tight wrap in bike tube, ripped/melted the tubing where the vice grips. FUCK. Now the nut is sitting on the stove, hopefully i can get it hot enough...

edit 2: intertube just tears. so bummed, was all excited about not riding around like a stiff ass dump truck and now i can't get the last nut off :( . maybe DSM can help me when i come to SD this weekend? even though i know they don't mess with swayaway... fuck.

Slit the inner tube down the middle and cut out a 6- 8 ish inch section, wrap it super tight around the shaft then clamp it TIGHT in your vice, use a long handle or breaker bar for the piston nut, quick hard pull and you should be good, always worked for me.

I have shaft clamps if you can't get it, I'm in Ventura
