Holy crap definitely subbed.. I bought my truck used and I have a cruise just like the OP's and TACO TX, also doesn't work. However, my light doesn't come on on mine at all. Are there any fuses I can check or anything simple like that on this particular cruise control??

Like I said, I just used the kit Toyota sells. Their P/N is PT474-35981 and it came from Safro Toyota near Milwaukee. I dunno what differs other than the stalk from the what Toyota actually installed at the factory, but apparently Rostra makes the add-on kit that dealers installed. Parts had Toyota 10-digit numbers on them and there is a factory written installation manual for it (MDC # 00107-00283 with 2001 supplements in MDC # 00107-00321).

It would make sense that Tacoma, which were made at NUMMI, would use some common parts with GM. NUMMI was a join venture between GM and Toyota. So maybe OEM is Rostra, too.
This kit does not illuminate the dash light, the 'Cruise' word on the stalk lights up green when its on. The only connection to the truck's ECU is using an e-tap that you clip on the speed sensor wire behind the glove box. There is a 5A fuse in the wiring harness. You get to that just above the accelerator pedal. You might get lucky and be able to see it by sticking your head under the dash, but you might have to remove the lower dash trim depending on how the harness got routed.

I have that same stalk. Mine is definitely factory and does not have a light on the dash it only has the green light on the stalk. Mine doesn't work any more because the box under the hood has broke loose from the fender. There are a few vacuum hoses that run to the box that you might check to make sure they are all still hooked up. The box should be on the passenger side and has a short cable that hooks to the throttle lever on the side of the throttle body.

Nah I meant on mine there's a little green light on the stalk itself. Thanks though I'll for sure check that out this afternoon. Cruise control will save my ass from speeding I'm sure. Especially going from 65 speed limit on a 4 lane to 55 on a 2 lane
    Edit: Here's a pic

Yeah I was looking at it yesterday.. Everything still looks hooked to it in the engine bay I honestly think it's electrical seeing as how the little light doesn't even come on. Thanks man

i have the same aftermarket cruise installed in my truck. it SUCKS constantly surges the throttle trying to adjust its speed, wastes gas, and throws you forward and back in your seat while it surges. freaking HATE it!

It is probably just a fuse somewhere then.

Yea i wouldnt miss it if it wasnt there, i hardley ever use it because like someone said it constantly is dropping down a gear to compensate for speed. Why dealers installed them i dont know.

IMHO is that these are dealer installed and not factory install. \

I'm just gonna take mine out and be done with it. And yeah I looked under the hood. No extra fuses

I have the same issue. After digging up troubleshooting info (thanks to this thread) about the Rostra unit that goes on my 1999 PreRunner it appears there is a setting that may help smooth things out. I'll also buzz through most of the setup instructions and see if this dealer installed CC was EVER right. Since I'm the 3rd owner there's no telling.
