You need to inspect your driveline angles and make sure they conform to basic u-joint mechanics.

The output shaft of your transfer case must match the pinion shaft angle, meaning the their axes must be parallel. The carrier bearing has to be lowered enough so both pieces of driveshaft are co-axial.

Umm....no. Tacomas have a double cardan CV driveshaft. The flange on the third member should be pointed directly at the transfer case output shaft (or CB if you have one), not at the same angle. I typically drop the diff flange 2* from inline to compensate for axle wrap.

Knightsen area. But I'm sure we can get him to Concord. Or maybe arrange something. He's an active breed dog. Needs lots of room to run.

WTF are you talking about? My taco has u-joints and a carrier bearing, I think most DC 2nd gens do, thus my info is correct. The guy who asked the question has a DC 2nd gen. I am well aware about double cardan joints.

My answer was generic to cover both single cabs and otherwise. Regardless, you said the output shaft of the transfer case must match the pinion shaft angle...which is wrong.
The pinion flange is supposed point dead at the carrier bearing (or transfer case for single cabs) at ride height. The double cardan joint is right after the CB.

Of course...i was thinking first gen :anonymous:

Your diagram shows what I was saying. The axis of the transfer care must be parallel to the axis of the pinion shaft. With a carrier bearing, it must be dropped enough so the two drive line pieces are spinning co-axially.

I thought my previous post was clear, but I guess not.

I was thinking for my folks, they have 100 acres in Trinity County. Not sure they are looking but I will ask.

    No no...you were perfectly clear.
I think you just missed my last statement.

I often forget about the inferiority of second gens :cookiemonster:

    Kidding of course.

Can someone recommend a place in Sac. to have my cv axles changed? I've got the axles already, I just need them swapped. Thanks!

Ok so my exhaust cutting is not working out with the position of my spare. Oakland peeps, if I get a flat I'm going to request your assistance in lending me a spare :). Id rather not strap a spare down in my bed and hope for the best or let it catch fire under my truck so I'm driving without one.

Saw your pictures in live. I doubt the exhaust will affect the tire at that angle, no need to remove your spare. If you're concerned about it though then cut it back to before where it dumps over the axel.

Hard to get the correct angles to properly show it but there would more than likely be problems. You could be right but I'd rather not test that theory out that far from home. It's only a small gap from the tip to the tire and the way it's angled it would be blowing right onto the treads.

If it melts your spare a little bit (looks too far to catch fire) and you need to use the tire, then you'll just drive down the street with a thunk thunk thunk... just bob your head to the beat and since you are in Oaktown the natives will just think you have a rad sound system.
