stock coils? tacoma 2nd gen

What's the differences in stock coils from sport/offroad/4wd//2wd

Is there any differences and if so what's the +/-

The sport coils I replaced my 4x4 SR5 coils with feel pretty much the same... not very scientific, I know

 

The sport coils are softer to ride better on road and off road coils are stiffer for the off road package, but i don't think there's alot of difference, the shocks are the same i think, maybe someone else can tell you more about them, not sure on 2WD pre runners.

Can anyone tell me if a base model 4x4 is same coil as on the trd offroad ..??

 

Pretty much the offroad coils are little thicker and stiff.

All other models are pretty much the same.

 

Base model sr5's and TRD offroad use the same coil. The only one thats different is the Sport

 

Holy Jeebus, the mis-info in here. Sport and SR-5 coils are the same linear coils, the OR are Progressive.

I highly doubt that....I would think the base, SR5 and TRD Sport have the same springs. I can't imagine they'd put the progressive coils on the base model. Could be wrong though. Unless there's a 3rd, cheaper spring out there.

The point I'm trying to get is : I have an extra set of coils I want to install some 5100 in
Would I see any difference in the base (not SR5) 4x4 and my current trd offroad 4x4 ?

Get me a vin for the other truck and I can get part numbers to compare. I got the part numbers for yours, but when we take the vin out for the search there are at least 4 different possible part numbers per side and no way to narrow it down any further.

 

The offload coils are progressive coils, the base, SR5, and Sport are linear coils. The progressive coils are designed to function over a range of different conditions. I do not know exactly how the spring rates vary. The progressive coils are probably designed to have a greater spring rate under loaded conditions, giving you the same feel during small suspension compressions, but providing a stiffer, more controlled response when loaded or when hitting bigger bumps, dips.

 

Not sure what exactly is different, but when using both VINs, they do indicate different part numbers.

Hopefully this helps a little, still couldn't tell you the honest difference between the 2 without guessing as much as many have already in here. But I can tell you 100% that the part numbers are in fact different.
