Bah, I can't stand thermodynamics. Probably didn't help that the teacher was fresh off the boat and had a hard time speaking English as it was. Very nice guy, very smart, just didn't grasp English well at the time which made out hard to learn.

Plus I like to visualize what's going on, like chemistry, some of the thermo stuff was hard for me to visualize what was happening.

Also, get an internship! Get coffee for people, wipe their butts if you have to. Just do it, and don't complain you're doing bitch work.

By papers, you mean a written warning?

I loved thermodynamics. The cycles made the most sense to me since they can be related to an engine. End of the day though, I didn't want the types of jobs that came with mechanical or aerospace engineering so I went with dirt, concrete and steel instead :D

Majors make a huge difference. I was accounting and got a job immediately, engineering is the same way. I know alot of people in sciences who need a MS or more before they will get hired. Law degrees and MBA's don't mean as much as they used to.

That's what gets me now sometimes. When I had my car and was learning to tune, you really had to know done decently advanced thermo stuff to really understand what the changes you were making are doing. Makes me wish I learned more of it/ took more away from the class. If they thought it in those terms I probably would have loved it:rofl:

Seriously though, the carnot cycle was the first thing we learned about and once the professor related it to a diesel engine, I could understand what was happening.

This. And forget philosophy or communications. (no offense to anyone here), but just try finding a job in your field.

I did... it didn't help. But I have a job now so it's all good. I feel like the sciences aren't in as high demand as engineering. Although, they were in about 2004-2006 I graduated 2009 right as shit was hitting the fan. So I went to grad school and left in 2012 and shit was still bad and still is bad. Oh well. I chose poorly.

Wait a minute... you just said thermo isn't bad but you're worried about differential equations?!?!?! Why the hell are you taking differential equations AFTER thermodynamics???

Haha. Really though it can be tough. After the economy really took a dump in 09 early '10, my first company downsized and we had massive layoffs, including me since I was a low guy on the totem pole. Took like 8 months to get another job. It fucking sucked and was super depressing. There were literally no civil/geotech positions because there was no public finding or private capital for any sort of civil engineering project.

The other problem is EVERYONE has a degree now, so a BS doesn't count for what it used to. Companies want advanced degrees and internship/full time experience which is hard to get when the economy sucks and no ones hiring.

E&M was my favorite. I didn't have to take it but I did anyway (E&M was a separate course at my college). Thermo 1 must not have involved diff eqs. Although, diff eqs and non-linear dynamics were two of my favorite courses that I took and they were the most challenging.

Nice. I think Pratt moved most of their engineering out of CT which is lame. I think general dynamics may still have a presence in CT, Sikorsky as well. They both recruit heavily out of UCONN, but anyone is welcome to attend the UCONN job fairs

It can but it would be like physics without calculus. You'd just get a list of equations and plug-and-chug while not knowing how they came about. I can't even imagine learning about entropy and enthalpy that way... it would be mind boggling.
