Sorry to bump this older thread up, but I just purchased a 2013 DCLB TRD Sport and this is my first truck.

Been doing as much research as possible over the past few days and I have a couple questions!

I've read most of this thread over the past couple of days, but my retention of it all is not very good (sorry!).

Therefore, my question is, Dif Drop spacers are included in most of the "kits" like this one: http://www.kmdgarage.com/toytec-ultimate-05-up-tacoma-lift-w-bilstein-shocks/. If they are so "risky" or bad as the OP seems to think, why would they be included in the kit?

The OP has a bad experience because he hits a rock and, therefore, based on his personal bad experience, tells everyone not to install them or to actually remove them... and everyone jumps on board?

Do we even know what exactly he was doing? Did he take a 20' jump and land on the rock? By the look of the skid plates on his truck in the first picture tell me this guy is doing some serious off roading... No?

Can we confirm that he would have had no damage if the drop kit wasn't installed? Probably not...

I can't remember if there was anyone else who posted up a similar bad story, but my memory tells me no.

So I'm just trying to figure out if and when I get a lift kit, do I install the Diff drop spacers as per the recommendations of the makers, or a bad experience of a end-user?

    Tough call...

So my first lift was a typical mid travel setup, never had any diff drop and never had any issue with my CV boots in 43K miles since recently going LT. There are a few things you can do to help the longevity of the boot pleats, like pulling the boot mouth over the axle shaft and spreading the pleats out some ( yes sexual pun intended) so they don't rub and wear prematurely.

I dont see how one inch really does much to help the wear on the CV boots.

    1st:

Go back and read the thread. It is roundly shown that diff drops on 2nd gens do NOTHING to help and can only hurt. They only lower two of the three mounting points of the diff, and they're the mounting points out at the end of a long lever arm. They tilt the diff, not drop it. And they tilt it the wrong way.

    2nd:

    Do not question MJP2.

I really don't understand why the diff drop is being blamed for the breakage. You can discuss the effectiveness of the diff drop all you want but telling people that the diff drop caused your truck to break after you landed on a rock with a stupidly designed skid is completely wrong.

Its like you stuck your arm out the window of your truck and then got mad at your arm when a passing car took it off...

I already read the whole thread  IMHO, the skid was the problem.

I get that. My point is that the blame for the breakage was placed on the diff drop. See my arm and window analogy.

Ok, so why do the producers make/include them in the first place if there is no gain? Is it a carry over thing from 1st gen?
