Hey guys. The thread is am i happy with my toyota.
I find some of your comments & suggestions a little strange.
First, i know my truck is not a 3/4 ( or 1 ton ). I sold a f-350 1 ton to get this. I know this is a 1/2 ton (1k lbs.). But i do expect with a stock mid-sized pick-up, to be able to safely handle a load of firewood, or a 4-wheeler (grizzly,648 lbs. Wet), without bottoming out or being hard to handle. I do not drive quickly with a load. What is a truck to me? It should be able to handle the load it was designed for. Check your manuals for the GVW. I bought it to move firewood, take my ATV where i want.
I do not want to have to install dakars or omd springs, to reach the GVW capabilites of the truck. I also dont want to buy a trailer (already have one), to transport my motorcycle or 4-wheeler.
All this to me sounds crazy. Buy a pick-up truck to use as a truck, but dont expect to be able to carry anything except pillows in the bed.
For the record, i love my truck. I love toyotas. I have owned many.
I will modify the suspension & bitch some of the time that this is required to work on firewood & move my ATV, & be happy with the truck in the end. But i think toyota really needs to take a hard look at the trucks they are producing, & remember they are selling cars & trucks. Well my rant is over. I have to go now to meet someone with a set of Chevy springs!

Soooooooo, you're not happy right now but you will be after you beef up the rear leafs? Just messing with you. In all seriousness I know what you're getting at. I do hope you keep us updated on the OMD mod.

Only things I don't like are:

    *5 speed AT slipping occasionally
    *Melting DRL's
*Front passenger belt squeaks and squeals when it's cold :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:
    *loose consoles

    That's all.

Really no car is perfect for anybody. There are things that can always be better, especially when you take into account individual preferences. Just gives us an excuse to make our Tacos our own! It's fun to be able to upgrade and make changes to suit our needs, this forum wouldn't exist without that pursuit. For me it's not so much the luxury upgrades I want (such as heated mirrors, Entune, Adaptive cruise control or seat coolers) but the functional driving items that I miss. Things like a manual xfer case instead of the switch we are given, rediculous mounting of the crossover exhaust pipe, the iffy composite bed (which so far has been fine), plastic gas tanks and skid plate, and other similar items. But anyone who has done any sort of modification to their Taco will have done something slightly different than the next guy and reading about those differences just brings on more and more opportunity. Here's to the wealth of knowledge at our fingertips, the innovation within it, and ourselves for taking it on!! Happy modding to you all!

Considering the OP, I'd really like a sliding rear window that looks factory installed...

I forgot about that... All doublecabs should have a power rear slider.

Me too. After hooking up my boat, maybe 250 tongue weight, and camping gear another 250 I got after Toyota. After the second or third eamil they quit replying. I think I sent 4 total. Trucks are trucks and cars are cars. I say let the people that want a car like ride put on softer springs. In the last email I recommended that they have an option for springs. I added the Hellwigs on Friday but did not measure the height after hooking the boat up. Truck seemed to squat less but the proof is in the tape measure. I had the TSB on my 2009 and it was OK but as I have said before with the Baja being level it does not do as well loaded.

Was that an option? I was wondering about the block heater when I bought mine. It would be nice for those -30 degree nights we have. I keep it in a garage(not heated) but it still stays much warmer in there.

And for FUCKS SAKE!!! I'm with OZ on this one, heated mirrors!!! Def doing the DIY heated mirror mod before winter hits!

Yeah, no idea what their malfunction is. Maybe the Japanese don't haul stuff in their trucks? :notsure:

I don't get it either , even the old original gen mini-truck had better springs - they worked great on my Samurai , lol .
It's downright embarrassing loaded , squatted down nearly to the bumpstops with so little weight in the bed - tempted to go find a set of springs off a Dodge Dakota - those are tough !

Even with that taken into account, having driven the hell out of my 95 and the creature comforts of my 11 I wouldn't drive anything else.

Hey, I agree , love the Taco and wouldn't want anything else , just sick of the fukn vibrations at takeoff and those stupid weak springs .
Why doesn't someone just make a stock height set of hd springs for these ? I mean , not all of us want to lift the damned thing - got a Land Cruiser for that kind of duty and it's built like a tank on steroids . Should see the springs under that 36yr-old monster ....

I wonder if those vibes are due to the shitty springs allowing the axle to wrap... You're right about offering an HD spring, that would solve a lot of problems right at the dealership. There's a spring manufacturer not to far from me that I bet would put a leaf together to do just that. Could be one near you as well?
