k, so here is my basic plan



tire off to the pass side on top, shelf for a basic sized coleman cooler or tote lengthwise on the drivers side, and a shovel on some clamps off to one side as well

 

yep. it would only sit 2" more to the left, which in that case just slide whatever else is on the shelf...2" to the left

believe it or not its actually pretty close. my spare right now is a brand new 31 haha!
and the rack is longer than the tire or cooler, so there will be extra room to play with depending on what size cooler of tote i use. but the tire will sit above the rack on a shelf and the cooler/tote shelf sits below it, about 2-3" above the bed rail.

well i took everything out to the truck and played around with it. set a spare up there, set a cooler/tote up there, played with a few configurations.

it doesen't have to be a cooler either. it can just be a spot for a tote. thats one less that needs to go in the bed haha.

well. the spare has to go up there because there really is no where else it can realistically go except under the truck. camping stuff that gets pulled out only when camping would go up front where it is hardest to access, you are probably right, the spot on the rack would be my 4x4 box with tools and recovery gear, then food and coolers all under it that can easily be pulled out.

as for weight this would only be for travel/expo type shit (like the wyo trip) if i was doing moab type wheeling or technical stuff i would just take the rack off.


of course shit changes when you start building it, but i think it'll fit fine.

well when you are wheeling the last thing i want is the tire under the truck potentially getting hung up or getting damaged. when you are on a day trip i can just throw the tire in the bed and call it a day. when you have to wheel to GET TO CAMP where does the tire go when the bed is full of shit? believe me, the bed will be full of shit. solution? boom, tire goes on the rack and is not in the way of camping stuff going in the bed.

Way way too small. Make at least 40" on the inside of the perpendicular rails.Your bed is 73" I think. Plus you want want a 35" hanging over.

Offset is fine. Compensate for the 35" tire tho. No different the offset tire swing.

Idk how tall it is..so not sure the self thing would work. I agree tho I would put the cooler there. Low in the bed under a tarp is the way to go unless your planning on a 12v cooler.

 

k ya 32 was a low ball number haha. keep forgetting it has to be at least as big as the possible future 35. it won't be much bigger than that though.

rack sits about 13" above bed...so i figure the shelf will be 3" above that

And yea I'd go 40". Then there is room to spare on the tire rim. Want over hang is you place the cent mounting right. We will see how good you are and number crunching and fabbing up here haha throw one of mine up there to see.

13" huh? Do ou remember how tall mine stood up in Moab on my rack? That's pretty much how a 35x12.5 will sit height wise.

I'd almost just cent the tire. Put axle, shovel, hi lift, on the sides. CB antenna and then make the self thing hold Jerry cans. Or make two baskets. One on each side that's as wide as a Jerry can. Then you could fit two Jerry cans per side. Two for gas. Two for water.

derp no, the shelf goes 3" above the top of the bed. so the tote will stick up a little bit above the rack rails, and the spare will be about roof level, mighe even recess the spare tire space so it doesen't stick up so high.

 

Good choice on offsetting the tire to passenger. Make up for the taco lean too.
