Bazooka subs

Can they be used with the output that the stock headunit gives? OR do I need to upgrade the HU first

 

Long answer is no.....short answer is....NO


Every subwoofer needs it's own amp. If you really expect to get anything out of a sub you need at least 100watts for it to be worth it in my opinion. No headunit, stock or aftermarket will ever do that.

PS: Basooka subs are garbage. I wish I could put that nicer but I can't. If you want some suggestions let us know what you're plans/goals are and your price range. I'm sure we can get you bumping.

 

I'm going to disagree slightly. Bazooka subs, are not the best by any means. But they might work fine for some people. They can be especially handy in a leased vehicle.

They do make a powered version version which could be used without changing the H/U.

But, that being said; I would suggest changing out the HU and going with dedicated subs and all that. Much better results can be had over the stock equipment.

 

Yup, My buddy didnt want to put a nice system in his jeeps so he put a bazooka. It definitely does its job well enough!

 

If you get the powered version, then yes. They take hi or low level inputs.

How much is the one you are pondering? I bet you could do better for the money with a properly designed setup.

thats really expensive for its sound quality. I'd just make small box, get a 10, a small amp, and call it quits and enjoy it.

 

Would an FJ sub work in a Tacoma?

 

Not sure what an fj sub is like, but for the most part, the basis of a fucntion sub will be two wires and a power source. So if you want it to work, i'm sure you can make it work.

 

Since we are on topic, I have been thinking about the powered sub option (mtx, infinity, bazooka) I have a Pioneer HU and just need a bit more low for my liking. Does anyone have any experience with these? They sell for about $200 - $250 and it seems like an option.

I likt the idea of portability and being able to remove it when hauling more passengers. I dont want to the subs behind the seats because I am using the space for other things.

 

A bit on the expensive side, but very portable; the Infinity bass link is not so bad. It isn't going to fit under a seat or win beauty contests, but it works well for what it is.

 

That's my point exactly. I'm going to be working on something before too long for the Tacoma. I think it should turn out well but since I bought the truck last week I'll be waiting a little bit before I get crazy.

 

I just went to Jimmys and they quoted me at $488.38 for:

JL 10 inch sub
Mr.Marv box
labor
and amp

 

Make your own box = $40 (at most, if you buy a whole sheet of mdf)
10" sub +- $100 (no need for a super expensive one if you just want a little thump)
wiring = $40
amp = $100 ish

= about $280 for something that would sound way better than a bazooka.

Don’t forget about that gray fabric and spray glue to make it look nicer. I made my own box awhile back for my Celica and it turned out and looked great. I built it to fit flush with trunk so it looked like it was part of the car. I even build a box for the amp with an acrylic window and neon light and everything (rice days). One of my buddies paid some shop to do the exact same thing and they charged him $2000 just the year before.

One thing to remember is each sub has a size requirement inside the box for maximum performance. So don’t pick any old sub make sure the area you have to work for the particular speaker.

 

Yeah I know. Isn't it like 7.5 cubic units for a 10"??

 

depends on the sub. the pioneer shallow mount needs about .5 in^3.
