black emblems, tinted tails, fog light mod, DTRL, weathertechs, in-dash NAV, center console light, glovebox light, maglite mounts, BHLM, sockmonkey decals and bumper cover, 886 reverse lights, extra beg rings, undercover, TRD exhaust (painted black), TRD skidplate (custom paint)
I lucked out and got a set of the FJ TRD SE rims and I am looking for some input. I have gone to some extent to eliminate any color that isn't silver or some shade of black on my Silver Streak Sport (black emblems, decal, heads, tails, etc). The FJ wheels have the TRD painted red on the centercap and I just don't think that will jive with my look. Is it your opinion that making those letters black will take away from the FJ rim look? Will it look non-authentic? Do you think it will take away from the value of the rim if I try to re-sell them in the future? I am looking for any opinion or criticism.

Also, aside from IF I should do it, does anyone have suggestions as to HOW to do it? As a brief aside, how do you get the darn centercap off? I am no stranger to a rattle can and could meticulously tape it off, but if someone has a better idea I am all ears. Perhaps something less permanent too..? I am not afraid to spend time and effort on this so any suggestion is welcome.

Finally, does anyone with these Anthracite rims have black lug nuts? If so, could you post a picture? If not, are you just using the stock lug nuts from your Tacoma?

Thanks to all for any input.

Thank you all for your input (sweet truck delmarva). I haven't got them on my truck yet and I guess I'll wait till then to make a decision, but it sounds like I should leave them red. I will post pics when I get them on and we'll see how much the red stands out.

As for the lug nuts, johnecon2001 is there something in particular I should be looking for? Let me know and I'll try to assist in your quest also. For the time being I was planning on purchasing a set of locking lug nuts and using the lugs off my Tacoma for the rest...that will work, won't it?

    Thanks again.

^^ I'm talking to myself...I don't always get the best response from my posts...

OK, I've recently realized that I cannot use my Tacoma lug nuts and search as I might, I am really struggling finding out more information about the lug nuts I do need. I found out the stock (=chrome) lug nuts for these FJ TRD SE wheels are part number 90942-01058, but they are ~$9 each from the dealership.

I would like to find out more information about these lug nuts so I could look for other ones, particularly black ones or even just cheaper. I have found out, and correct me if I'm wrong, that I need "mag" lug nuts with a flat seat. Is this the same as "shank"? I also know the "thread size" is 12mmx1.5RH. What I don't know is the shank length, open vs closed end, with vs without washer, etc.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have a set of Anthracite wheels in my garage so if you need measurements off the lugs I can get them for you...

As for the price from your dealer...they are ripping you...Wait, just called and checked the price and my local dealer said 11.91 each.

Where did you get your wheels from? Could you call them and get the lugs as well? They should have come with the lugs...

I would just leave the Red alone. Chances are, you could mess up the rim and make it look worse, and with how hard it is to buy these rims...that would suck!

I got the wheels off craigslist and thought it'd be as simple as taking mine off and putting the FJ wheels on...boy was I naive! I actually did research it a little, but didn't think getting lug nuts would be that big of a deal (or that expensive). Oh, so the seller used the factory lug nuts on the aftermarket rims so I didn't get them...

I thought about silver too, but it is looking like the consensus is to leave them red and not risk f-ing it up so I think I will see how that looks...BUT only after I figure out the stupid lug nut fiasco!!! Frustrated and I can't fathom paying the stupid dealership that much for tiny little lugnuts.

Great looking truck Dark Knight. I assume the lug nuts came with your wheels..?

Well, I finally got these suckers on. Here is my first pic posted of them (excuse the camera phone quality). The red is pretty subtle, but is the only thing red on my truck...[IMG]
