I was just thinking that, haha. I see a 3 story looking building right off the road and there isn't anything that big or that close to the road in southfork.

Just talked to the grandparents and they're out safely. Since all of their homes are in the valley and away from all the beetle kill, they should be ok we think. The entire neighborhood watered their yards for about an hour before they left this morning.

Haha, not to many places to stop along the way unless you take a detour buena vista. Plus, can't beat grandma's cooking which is always ready when we get there. :hungry:

There's an extra hour right there. Too bad The Lumberjack in South Fork closed. Loved their pies.

BTW Glad to hear your folks are okay. Do they live among the trees or out in the grassland part?

They all live more out in the valley. My grandma, her 3 sisters, and some other family all have homes in the same neighborhood. All retired school teachers so they're not year round residents. They're only there during the summers. They have a couple of young pines and some aspens in their yard, but they don't live anywhere near the massive beatle kill areas.

The lumberjack closed, but then a new family opened back up as the Hungry Logger. It was still open as of last summer when I was down there last. However, the family that bought it was looking for a new buyer to sell it.

    UPDATE 1:06 p.m.
SOUTH FORK, Colo. (AP) -- A massive wildfire working overtime in hot, windy weather is threatening a tourist town in Colorado's southwestern mountains.
South Fork is home to about 400 full-time residents and was evacuated as the 47-square-mile acre West Fork Fire moved closer Friday.
Wildland firefighters were teaming up with local firefighters to try to protect the town, which is surrounded by the Rio Grande National Forest.
The fire is about seven miles southwest of town and has been advancing at rate of about a mile an hour.
Fire spokeswoman Penny Bertram says she won't speculate on the likelihood of the town burning, just that it's at high risk.

Yeah, there were some articles that said the town was pretty much a gonner, but the fireman that knocked on my grandma's door this morning said the evacuation was more of a preventative measure due to air quality and the smoke/ash settling in the valley where town is.

Apparently the flames are so damn hot that one of the pilots dropping water on the fire said that most of his drops were evaperating before hitting the ground.
