Scratch the JetBoil. Look at the MSR Reactor. Better product and more efficient. Also, might want to look at the new MSR Whisperlight UNIVERSAL! - Takes all the fuels. When I say all, I mean it. Cannister and Pressurized fuels.

I like the reactor for a plethora of reasons. One (which is dangerous and never should be done) is to use it as a space heater when your tent is in -degree temps all night in 30-60mph winds. Waking up to your breath frozen to the tent is an interesting sight. Not to mention, if you packed up that tent with all the ice in it, you would be carrying additional weight that you did not intend on bringing.

Basic truck camping with my two GSPs. Whenever I go, I make a list of things to add to the necessities and I remove what I didn't use. So far I can throw and go in about 20 minutes.

    back to bone stock.
i'm a jetboil guy. the stove has it's limitations. (i have never backpacked in sub freezing temps). it is an easy stove, and the fuel canister last a strangely long time. it may be my imagination, but i think the Peak fuel last longer than the blue/gray "low temp" jetboil fuel.

the main thing i hate about the jetboil..it really is just a water boiler. water for backpack meals, water for coffee/tea. i take down an animal and want to cook up a quick hunk of meat. it isnt happening in a jetboil. they now have some pot stabilizer adapter thing that will allow a regular pan to perch ontop of the stove, but simmering is a no-go, at least on my older FLASH stove.

i am eyeballing one of the multifuel stoves. i think i like the Primus Omnifuel TI..any reviews here?

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Hey, just found this thread so I'll be reading back a bit. I used to do a lot of backpacking and car camping. slowed down a bit but girlfriend is into it so I'm getting her going. Don't want to bite off too much too fast and scare her out of the woods.
I'm interested in a tow-able tent set up but nothing like that canvas hotel NYCO ? has.

Got the first camping trip done, wasn't anything crazy just a bit of car(truck) camping. It did give me a chance to try a tent I got as a gift. Did some treego before setting up camp. We did eat pretty good though

oh and for a stove, I think I may have to go with the whisperlite universal because of the lack of avalability in fuel canisters here.

Liking how you set up..... 20 minutes ain't bad at all... I do something similar with necessities. I keep all the regularly used equipment in a plastic storage bin. I just grab it, do a quick inventory and go. I also keep a spreadsheet with categories, I print it out and check things off as I load the Taco to make sure I got everything. The only thing that gets modified is the food section normally.

I pulled everything out of the attic last night to load the Taco this evening for this weekend's family trip. First major outing since before the rugrat was born 2 years ago, took me about 2 hours to inventory and re-organize everything. I'll snap some pics through the weekend... Heading to Smith Mountain Lake near Roanoke.

Am I missing something? You could do this with any stove. But like you say, it's not a really good idea unless you have good airflow or you run the risk of a long nap.

The Reactor is $179 and the JetBoil, $119 at REI. Both have similar ratings from customers. Someone said it best that these kinds of stoves are best for boiling water.

Foscoe, Valle Crucis, and the watauga river is beautiful..love camping down there. Wish I could spend more time there. The rents live off 105 and can see Grandfather out there window.

App made Boone to big. I liked it better 15 years ago.

    Lame...

I didn't get the spot I wanted but that one worked out well enough. And I had a visitor in camp...I was just about to go to bed and I turned around and two little beady eyes were peering out from under my rear mudflap. Scared the crap out of me because I hadn't heard anything, no rustling grass, nothing. I think it was just a marmot, it ran away as soon as I moved.

There was a treed hill behind me. I kinda like to be out in the open a little, just for better visibility.
