Question about Rearview mirror display

A quick question for anyone who might be able to answer it. I bought a 2013 Tacoma Double Cab, 4x4, v6 base model and I love it. I went with the stripped down version as they wanted WAY too much for the bells and whistles. I am interested in doing my own mod for the backup camera system. The truck is prewired for it, but has a basic rearview mirror (no LCD display, temperature, compass).

My question is this. I would like to purchase a mirror that has the LCD display for the backup system, compass and outside temperature. Is there an off brand cheaper mirror than the Toyota one that someone knows about? Or for these 3 things do I need to go to the dealer? I am not very familiar with companies that sell this type of stuff as this is my first new car.

There is a company called Auto Intelligence Electronics that makes build-it-how-you-want backup camera systems. One of the mirrors they have that looks close to factory is part# TM4200L. No idea about cost, though

 

I think in my own research and what you just posted, I might have just had an "ah ha" moment. Follow up question: Does the compass and temperature display through the same LCD display that the backup camera uses?

 

Yes it does. Fully customizable with regard to info displayed & 4 colors for the font
