    if you never tow or haul, there really isn't a need for the overload. you will have a slightly smoother ride without it. it's only really there to keep you from going to a point of negative arch that you go beyond the elastic limit of the springs, as well as slowing the speed at which the bumps hit the frame.

    Instructions for Icon suspension said to remove the lower leaf. I do plan on towing a 3800# travel trailer. Do you think this will affect my towing ability?

    it really depends on what the tongue weight is. if i'm not mistaken, the max tongue load on our trucks is 600 lbs. if you're there, you're not going to link the ride at all. if your at half that, you'll be just fine. in fact, it'll probably ride smoother loaded than unloaded. depends on how yours is set up, but some travel trailers have the ability to fairly easily move the axle/s forward and back, to change the weight distribution, and as a result the tongue weight. if yours doesn't have that ability, then just be mindful of were you put the heavy stuff inside the trailer when you are towing. (ex: put the 50lb sack of dog food and the cases of beer in the rear of the trailer to lighten the tongue weight.)

    I love that color. classy looking truck too, so clean.

    Thanks for the help. My trailer is about 3800#'s fully loaded, with a tongue weight of 300-350. It pulled fine with my Icon lifted FJ. I think the Taco should be even a better tow vehicle. I have the spring, so I could always put it back in. Not sure how that would affect the ride though, since the Icon people said take it out.

    Thanks River Rat, I had to bring it up to the standards of the FJ that I just gave my daughter. As a nature photographer, I am off-road quite a bit and need the capability to be able to get into the 'way back'. Since I am mostly solo on these adventures I need to really trust my vehicles to take me there and bring me back. I have had three FJ's and they have never let me down. I think the Taco will be just as reliable and in some ways more useful.

    that's a very nice looking setup!

    icon tells you to take out the overload because they design their products for offroading (specifically higher speed offroading), so they are concerned about the vehicle riding as smooth as possible through rough terrain, not carrying heavier loads. an overload leaf, while great for towing and hauling, will hinder the effectiveness of an off road setup that is designed to work without an overload.

    the best of both worlds, is an entirely new leaf pack (custom if need be) that is tailored to your exact needs.

    but for a trailer that light weight when loaded up, i think you've made the right choice. if you find that you need a little more support with the trailer hooked up, i'd recommend the all pro u-bold flip and timbren bump stops over putting the overload back in. they will engage sooner and offer a smother solution than the overload leaf.

    Sometimes we as parents do silly things like this for our daughters and now grandkids.

    Hopefully they continue the trend without flat out spoiling them. I know my daughter earned a lot of what she has, so a bit of help goes a long way.

    Not sure I would give her my ICON'd Tacoma...unless I got a Raptor. Actually, her hubby just got her a nice truck for their family. F250 Superduty diesel 4wd. Used but nice.
