Beautiful picture...It's amazing the colors the sky produces during sunrises and sunsets...the missus is an amateur photo bug but she does pretty good especially diving.

So, Tom, ..you're saying you can't soak it really well, put a chain around its roots, and rip it out of the ground using your truck? If not your truck, then beg, borrow or steal your friendly neighbor's monster truck, the one he drives at night when no one's looking, and it'll come right up!

Trust me on this! I've pulled big old oleanders out by the roots with my Tacoma, and they're more than equal to what you're dealing with there. Use a heavy chain, tie off solidly to the truck's frame, soak the ground really well, and you'll get 'er done!!

Welcome to the thread Mickey. Pull up a chair and enjoy life for a bit.

    Ken:
My wife and son rocked it back and forth then just hacked away at the bottom of the root ball. It came out pretty easily I was told. I was at a meeting after church. We began to tear out the second holly today. All the branches are cut, bagged and by the curb. ;)

Pic of the space where the trunk was.

    LOL

I have never taken out a holly before so I did not know what to expect. There is no real tap root so just dig deep all the way around and rock it out.

Still have 2 more hollies to remove. All the limbs are removed and bagged on one of them. The other will be a lot of work. It is pretty big.

On a positive note my wife likes the way the house looks now that the hollies are removed.

Glad you liked 'Hopi Sunset'. Even though I was born in and live in Florida, I have a special place in my heart for the American West. This little known canyon is located in the Nations in Arizona. In many ways it is more spectacular than the Grand Canyon. With a monsoon storm moving through and lightning striking all around me, I was able to get some great shots. The electricity in the air was attracted to my graphite tripod like a fat boy to a slurpee. The hair on my arms was standing straight up. Finally the rain drove me back to my truck.

Looked over your portfolio Steve. Hope you don't mind if I use your shot of Coal Mine Canyon as one of my wallpapers! Looks awesome on the 60" flat screen I use as my monitor! It'll be one of many Arizona photos in my wallpaper collection. Definitely a favorite!
