I just installed the clamp on the tailgate today.. The good place to get that clamp with the "key" ( E-Z clamp) is AutoZone. cheap around 2.49 before tax. you get 2 in a pack.

That is a great idea tighten till you can just turn it and then spin it till the slot for screwdriver is facing down and finish it off with a 5/16 wrench.

Same here. Apparently rednecks have better things to steal than a tailgate. And by things I mean copper :anonymous:

Dunno if the first gens realize you need a wrench to remove their tailgates, where as the 2nd gens are much easier.

Gotta watch your catalytic converters... My neighbors T100 and FJ were both hit on the street. Good ground clearance and a lot of precious metals in them. Supposedly the older ones are more valuable. :notsure:

Yeh but the seller clearly owns a speedway blue taco and is selling his damaged gate? Or are you saying he's stolen someone elses and now selling the used one? lol

Just went out to look at how to secure my new '13's tailgate and found this:

I guess Toyota has addressed this.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Anything in the manual ? Instructions on removing tailgate ? I'm wondering if the dealer did it.

Didn't notice anything in the manual (though I wasn't looking for it at the time I went through it). Did notice this later on in the day, getting ready to wash the truck:

Must be. Just bought the thing two weeks ago and I sure didn't put it there. Went out today to look at securing my tailgate, thanks to this thread, and lo and behold...

That looks better than the hose clamp mod!

Related: Mine was almost stolen in the fire department parking area. Until someone saw the kid messing around with my tailgate. He ran. Hose clamps saved the day.
