TRD Supercharged CEL/ VSC OFF

So about 2-3 weeks ago i installed the s/c and had it flashed with no problems at all. This weekend i hauled a.....6000lb or so trailer to Pittsburgh (about 120 miles) and while i was in Pittsburgh working i got a random CEL and VSC OFF. I didnt have a code reader and had to head home, the truck ran fine without the trailer so i headed home with it. When i got home i noticed my vac line from the FPR to the intake was off. I plugged it back in and the lights went off. I then got a longer vac line to do the FPR mod and after completing that i got both lights back on the dash. So i swapped it back to the original setup from FPR to intake box. Reset the battery and after the the second start and reaching operating temp i get the lights. Both FPR setups now yield the same codes...

P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)
P0174 System too Lean (Bank 2)

Any ideas why? or how to fix?

 

I see you upgraded to the URD pulley, but no mention of upgrading the fuel pump... did you?
They say that even a cold air intake can lean these out...
I haven't had any CEL on mine yet, but that may be because it's rarely at full boost for more than a second or two- advantage of selecting your own gear
I have the pulley & upgraded fuel pump sitting in my office just waiting to be installed...

 

Yes good call i do have the 2.825 pulley, and no fuel pump..... but only after much research

And also i rarely boost in town, usually run 1500-2300rpm so i doubt it'd be the cause...just my 02 though.

I had run it for almost 2 weeks and 500 miles without an issue prior but now its persistent.

 

I pulled 7000lbs 500 miles with no codes popping up- but I took it pretty easy. On the big hills, I'd put it at half throttle in 4th and just let it come down to whatever speed the hill drew it down to. I also never put it into 6th the whole trip

 

Pittsburgh is very hilly and it hauled fine 70-80mph on the way there no codes or anything. I said 6k so i wouldn't get any slack I see you have the Firestones too, how do you like them?

Maybe this is a 2012+ issue when using the URD pulley? Hmmm

 

Wouldn't be without them. 1st tow was a project car with no engine, but the truck still squatted like a bastard. That, coupled with the fact that the plant aimed my lights at outer space to begin with... made for some angry truckers that trip!

 

You install the S/C yourself?

 

Yessir, and just to double check i went thru the vac lines cross referencing them with the s/c writeup on here and everything is correct and lines are tight.

 

Really im surprised, did you get the light duty or the beefier bags?

 

computer is compensating for a lean condition ie: vacuum leak or in your case most likely out of fuel pump/injector due to the supercharger. being under load for that trip didn't help either.
I'd get a bigger pump, injectors & tune for the s/c in it before you hurt the engine.

 

I did mine too. Had the brake booster & VSC hoses reversed initially... must've been because I was crosseyed by then. The truck never went far that way though.
Any trouble? I had a spacer that wouldn't fit into a bearing for the idler pulleys... pressed it together in the vise. Also, the o-ring for the water neck extension rolled out of the groove the first time. I was so proud that I never spilled any coolant when I drained it... I'm filling, filling, and all of a sudden I had a waterfall . Lost about a gallon! Sure came apart fast to fix, though

 

I just got the light duty ones. I assume those are what come in the kit...
Although they didn't look any different than the ones I put in my S-10, other than the ports are a little smaller

 

Haha I played with that extension and thermostat housing thing for awhile, i was like this is impossible!!! and then pop the gasket went in and right together.

I really only had minor issues like steps in the TRD instruction bein completely out of order at times but it probably took me 10hrs split between 2 days. I dont brag about being fast, just do the job right. I do all of my work myself which is why i joined here to maybe help and definitely be helped at times, especially when it comes to the S/C issues.

I'd love to talk to Gadget and hear his thoughts, well b/c he has probably seen everything b4 LOL

 

Oh okay yea i got the heavy duty ones and really they dont squat, i had 50lbs in them and my truck rode like a dream with the tongue heavy trailer i had on. Says they are safe to 100lbs! Idk about that, i'd have to be pulling a 20k trailer.



On a side note my truck is the same as my moms and same lift yet mine rides much harder. Only real difference is hers is an 09 and mine is a 12. Maybe her suspension has settled some? It only has 10k miles

 

Well i reset the codes last night and drove to work and back today 3-4 miles each way with no cel. Thats slightly good news seeing as previously after the second start it would reach operating temp and throw the codes. I believe when switching to open loop

 

clearing the CEL resets the readiness monitors. it may take a few drive cycles to reset the CEL. keep us posted. do you have an air/fuel gauge?

I did see that but i have read numerous people running the identical setup without issue so i wasnt too worried. But i should know my luck lol. Here is a quote from Torspd who i must say is quite knowledgeable-

The URD statement didnt surprise me b/c this is aftermarket and they want people to be prepared and of course they want the end user to be safe rather than pushing the limits of the system.

That being said i do plan on getting a URD fuel pump setup very soon. Dont want to throw money at it hoping to fix it, i will figure it out.....eventually lol

EDIT- I do not have an a/f gauge but i hope to be using the Torque app in a week or so

 

just giving my .02 from experience and knowledge in this subject. the factory computer, pump & injectors can only handle so many additional bolt ons ie: cold air intake, headers & exhaust but now introducing boost puts it into a different perspective. the ECM and fuel system can only handle so much volume and the injectors will be pegged beyond 100% duty cycle under boost, let alone boost under load.
everyone's truck is different even though hanging the same add ons, all truck react differently.

does the truck Have a tune/chip? or running on stock PCM?

Ordered a bluetooth OBD2 toy to play with the Torque app, atm im guessing driving 130 miles pulling a trailer and plenty of throttle used that it ran so rich (tailpipe was all black) over a period of time that when i got home and fixed the FPR issue that the unburnt fuel was causing the 02's to sense a false lean condition during open loop.

Thats my current theory
