It's called a floor press and is really good to save the shoulders while focusing on the chest. Lots of power lifters do them.

Standing press will work the upper chest to a degree. I'd rather have big shoulders than big pecs!

Well it's been 10 days and I just weighed myself. Ten days ago I weighed in at 155 lbs the day I got home. I just weighed myself (always weigh myself butt naked) and I weighed in at 161 lbs. It was actually at 162.4lbs but I subtracted the days worth of food in my guts.

So I figure it's pretty good "recovery" process. The first seven days I got back I pushed myself in the gym and ate every 3 hours, mostly chicken, eggs, fruits and protein shakes 3 times a day. I was freakin stuffed all day.

But I'm positive that it was about 95% water weight that I gained back considering I was pretty dehydrated the few days before I got home. Still though, beats being at 155 lbs! :p

I'd like to get up to 165. I'm stayin stable at 145 (5'8"). Been back in the gym for 1 month as of this week. Can already tell a huge difference, mainly in my core.

Both. My shorts are looser and there's more definition. I've never been "fat", but during college I got a little bit of a gut, and that only got bigger after I graudated...I haven't really worked out since 2009, besides doing Insanity. Saw the girlfriend last weekend for the first time in a few weeks and she said she could tell a difference in my arms. Makes it worth gettin back in the gym when you're seeing results...

Nice. I was 150# 5'9" when i first started. Started massing right off the start. Since doing the 5x5 and eating a lot ive gone up and stayed around 164# I would like to hit 170# by the end of the summer so i might have to start massing again.

Just another point of view. I've been under the impression that 5x5 is more of a strength program, which truly works when done properly, but how about some hypertrophy workouts as well.

I started off with the 5x5 last summer and a month later I switched it to one 5x5 day and one 4x12 day. Did the 5x5 on mondays and the 4x12 on thursdays. That's when I noticed my weight really started going up. Both workout really helped out the other!

Went from beginning squats at 135 lbs last July to my last set of squats this May at 205 lbs. Not the best gains  but for me it was  I also started using the leg press after squats this past January. Once again, this is just my experience. What works for one person may not work or others.

Haven't had access to a squat rack in two months now. :( Just started using the leg press available at my local gym today.

Sweet! Ya ive been planning on jumping on some hypertrophy workouts. Im happy with my 200# squat just not happy with my bench. I think dropping weight and doing 10-12 reps should boost me to the next level. Why not start today!

I dropped my weight also and upped my reps. Trying to work on my technique and form. Been doing a 4x15 at 135 for bench and squat. Definitely can feel a difference when I have better form. Also threw in some bear complex. Than working in a tire workout 2x a week.

    The better coast
    Sometimes a break will help.

Not to get to sciency but read a study where people trained hard for 10 weeks, took max output stats and took 10 weeks off. They trained after the time off for another 10 weeks and took max stats, which turned out to be higher. There's some edumacation for the day :p

Haha. Think 4 years off is a long enough break? :anonymous:

I hadn't dropped off as much as I expected to. In college, weighing 140 lbs, my max bench was 250. Came back and got 225. I know that's not much, but I was fairly happy with it after 4 years of not lifting. That's really the only thing I've "maxed" on. I've been doing one of my buddies leg workouts. We play volleyball once a week and this dude can jump out of the freakin gym. I don't want big legs, I just want my vertical back. Been doing 3 sets of 15 on squats at the same weight. Started off light my first week back at 155. Did 215 for 3x15 today. Thought I was gonna die. Always been weak in my legs. I've got chicken legs. Lol.

Unless you have an injury you have no excuse! :p

Come on man, at 5'8" you should be shooting for 170 lbs at the least! :D That should be your goal for Christmas.

Just start squatting, and with repetition and constant stimulation you will see some gains. Along with proper nutrition and rest that is.

But at the end of the day we're all different and have different goals, so yea.
