I know this had been talked about but I have a 2005 DCSB 4X4 Sport. Love my Tacoma, adding another kiddo to the family soon. I average about 220-250 to the tank, makes it about 12.5-14mpg's which..... whatever. But my buddy has a bid crewmax Tundra that gets the same.... So why wouldn't I go to that and get the space and power when I need it? My Tacoma is paid off and I could pay cash for the Tundra, but would I miss the Tacoma? Asking guys that have done the switch. Mileage seems too close to worry. I am Running 5100's set to 2.5 and AAL in the rear with Spidertrax, and 265-70-17, not way overkill for my shady MPG's, thoughts?

If you're only getting 12-14 out of the Tacoma, you're going to get much worse out of the Tundra. Don't believe the EPA rating if you can't even get close to the EPA rating of your current truck.
Hell... I got 12-14 out of my '95 Suburban.

With that size tire that's nucking futs that you're getting such crappy gas mileage!! What, do you drive 100mph everywhere you go and tow a trailer everywhere you go??? I'm getting 20-21 all day long and twice on Sunday with my '12 TRDOR 4x4 and that's not driving like a granny. My worst mpg has ever been 16 and that was some towing mixed in that tank too.

do you need the extra horsepower that you would get with the tundra (like towing)? If not, keep tacoma

Honestly I don't drive but a mile or 2 back and forth to work. Ha I don't have a lead foot at all, seems to be very common trend on here some guys get 12-14 some get 18-22 seems weird. When this had highway tread tires on it and I didn't have a lift it got 21mpg's. Only thing that makes sense is that I have a lift, meatier tires, that's when it changed so much. Does flow's help that much in order for me to look into them? Thanks

    Bingo.

Shorts trips back and forth is what's killing you. Your truck never warms up all the way. Take it out on the highway once in a while. Check your spark plugs too.

If you're driving the same couple mile route with the Tundra expect the same couple mile fuel economy. I get over 20 consistently with my Pickup easy, except when I drive the few blocks to school and work all week if the weather is crappy. Then it tanks to 14-16.

Yea, I agree if you are already getting way under the estimated then you more than likely will get worse than the estimated in the Tundra which means you will be significantly lower which means below 10 mpg, you might as well think about a hummer. If you don't need the tundra for towing I would say stay with the tacoma. What you could do is get a sedan or something, I would even suggest a VW TDI Vehicle and use that as a DD or around town and then use the taco as a weekend warrior or for towing since it is paid off. That is just my 2 cents.

Again the fuel economy doesn't bug me that bad, that isn't what's in question. I will pay cash for the Tundra too because I found a smoking deal. More so what I am getting at is since the fuel is so what looks to be close together why not go with a TUndra, but a lot fo you are saying since I am driving short burst that might be it. and if it make it to where the Tundra is getting 10MPG;s then I would start having an issue with MPG's. THanks for the input fellas

I drove a new tundra a few years ago and for me the truck is to big. I like the size of the Tacoma, If I was you I would go take a Tundy for a drive and see if you like it.

Keep the Tacoma and mod it up. Get a used Civic for 5k for the gas mileage. Best of both worlds and insurance won't go up much at all.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
You have it paid off. Have a double cab for kids and stuff. Only go a few miles a day. Not worried about mileage but really you are.
I don't know why you are thinking of going bigger.

Are you bored with the taco ? Money in the bank is money in the bank. Your insurance will go up probably. State registration fees maybe too.

How about riding a bike to work. They get pretty good mileage.

I'm kinda with you on your reasoning, OP. If you can afford it and are able to get a much bigger, more capable truck that suits your needs better, why wouldn't you? I totally understand what you're saying as far as the MPG difference not being enough to matter. I say go for it.

Being talked into keeping my Tacoma, I do love my truck. It boils down to a want over a need, My dad had a '10 Platinum and it was badass. So back to my question about Flows, do they really help on horse or anything on these Tacomas or are they pretty stupid Idea on a Tacoma?

That's exactly what I've been saying lol, I'm back to square one but with a bigger, more powerful ride. Hell who knows, I "want" one, don't "need" one
