    Hello,

    So I just bought a 2000 Tacoma SR5 4X4 5spd 4cyl with ... 385k miles.

    AND IT RUNS GREAT!

Bought it from a friend of mine for 2k. He bought it from a Toyota mechanic about a year ago. so far its smooth, no shakes, smoke, strange engine noises and when I change the oil after 5k miles its still Gold and it appears that none has been burned.

Anyway I am new to the site and I was looking for the link to a how to change the timing belt (chain?) for my truck. Does anyone know where I can find that?

Have you tried the search function? Otherwise, someone here will almost certainly chime in.

I thought I had a lot of miles on my 96 5-lug with 275K!

All normal maintenance has been done very consistently, but I am unsure of when or if the Timing chain has been changed...

Is there any other maintenance any of you would suggest?

I think I am going to do spark plugs and wires soon as well

3.4 is belt, however OP has a 4 cyl which happens to be chain driven

I'm pretty sure the 4 cyls are non-interference, so I don't worry about it.

Thanks for the note, I have heard similar I just do not want to cause major damage by not changing it. Between the original owner and I, we would like to get this think to 1 million miles

Put it up on jack stands and put a brick on the gas pedal. Just add gas as needed. Shouldnt take too long...

For 2G's that is nice, far better than the $3500 I paid for mine. But I have no regrets, soon mine will look worth the money I spent. Just lots of TLC

From what I understand the 4cyl are interference engines...thats why toyota gave them chains and the 6cyl are non-interference engines...thats why they have belts.

I have the '96 2RZ-FE 2.4L which I've read is non-interference with chains. I assumed later year 4 cyl engines would be also.
