It was in the old Testament that he promised a New testament, so by abolishing the old at the set time, nothing passed, nothing failed, it was ALL fulfilled.

    Jeremiah 31:31
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
    Ephesians 2:15
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments

So the old is no more, we are now under the new:

    Hebrews 8:13
In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

This may help you understand. The Old Testament can be very confusing if taken out of context.

I don't believe in God as defined by the Bible and yet I am quite certain that the love I feel for my wife is very real and not dependent on and prerequisite beliefs

I don't believe it's unnecessary at all. Jesus refers to it countless times reminding us of fullfilled prophecies, songs of praise, countless stories of people in history who were greatly affected by God. The stuffs not fairy tales, they found chariots in the Red Sea, they've found geological landmarks all throughout that area that can only be explained by the bible. I've heard they've even found the rock that had water runn through it with no source (I don't know how reliable that one is though)

I see how it can be confusing. Its not up to us to pass judgment. Shall he be put to death? No person has the right to make that call. If he is doing wrong he will be judged accordingly when his time comes. All the "laws" and "rules" are laid out for us to follow. Its your free will to follow, or not follow. You get to choose, thats the beauty of it

Sure, no hard feelings on my end, it's probably the most worthwhile debate I can think of haha. And I'm sure I've misspoke in here, I hope what I've said causes people to go look for themselves, because ultimately, I can't change anyone's mind. My mind was changed through a couple failed attempts at suicide and MONTHS and MONTHS of deep depression and physical pain. I had my Job moment and it took seeing the face of Jesus crying with me and seeing the love in His eyes. That was a personal thing, that was how He chose to encounter me. I just keep praying He encounters you guys in the same way.

The neg rep thing bothers me.

The BIGGEST issue I have with almost all religions is that they serve to divide and cause confrontation; meanwhile most followers miss the point of compassion and love that those self-same religions preach.

Not that it ultimately matters (the rep I mean), but...sorry it happened.

Funny how points of view can be so hard to alter.

You are defining intelligent design different than it is applied. Intelligent design really doesn't use science to try to prove it's position. It's main motivation is to show that because it can't explain anything it must require a designer.

You have essentially called all the extremely intelligent scientists in Biology, Genetics, Archeology, and a dozen other fields fucking stupid.

    Not convincing.

Intelligent design is creationism rebranded, nothing more.

I don't know I'd go that far. I think some folks just simply aren't okay with it being God that created us. They'll say SOMETHING did, but don't typically go further than that.

What if you believe that a greater power created the universe and we evolved as is spelled out in science but without all the mumbo jumbo of the Bible fables ?

The question I always ask both sides is. When the Universe was created, be it by God or Science, what or who created God or Science? You can't get something from nothing!

I think some folks just simply aren't okay with not knowing how we came to be and use "God did it" as a default response to anything that can't be explained.
