You must have the elusive '11th Mode'. A seventh dimension of space and time not even Albert Einstein could predict in his nightmares. Have you driven with VSC OFF in snow ?

 

Nope. If you're trying to set me up for something, I can't see it working. The modes are the modes. There isn't something different about your truck only.

I've never touched the VSC OFF switch in snow in 4HI, I thought the truck was doing fine without doing so. I know a lot more about the systems now. In 2WD I one-touched the VSC OFF button to get into the Auto-LSD mode. Wasn't worth much so of course I went into 4HI.

 

Simple question , no set up

With VSC OFF in snow , I have had traction control engage when my truck was in a tail slide condition

 

Alright, but were you in 2WD or 4HI? And, did you do the one-touch on the "VSC OFF" switch or the three second hold down?

 

OZ-T is right, it's never 100% off. Hold the button down, completely "turning it off" and break the back end loose in a slide - VSC will re-engage.

I'm having a hard time seeing this secret Toyota conspiracy where only a few vehicles have this 11th Mode of the nanny. You must have pissed off the nanny gods somehow. That's on you, doesn't apply to the rest of us.

You're missing the point

It's not a secret mode , it is just that in the VSC OFF mode the safety feature of VSC / Traction Control will still engage if the skid control / yaw sensor thinks the truck is about to fishtail / roll over , it is not " off " it is just greatly reduced in sensitivity to the point of where it won't engage without extreme circumstances

 

I guess then you must have pushed your truck to the limits with VSC OFF. I haven't done so.

anyhow! I actually realized something I had not thought about til now!
...so the "VSC" button also controls the "Trailer sway control" ?
I havent played with mine to better understand these systems but as the "Trailer sway control" is listed as a feature of the "TRDs Tow Packages" I thought they were individually controlled!

 

Toyota says it is off, not a reduced sensitivity. Can you give any documentation from Toyota that shows the system is still engaged, but with a lower sensitivity?

 

I don't have trailer sway control so I can't comment on that
