Glove Box Dampener

Does anyone have any recomendations on how to keep the dampener connected? I changed my cabin air filter and reconnected the dampener. It stayed connected for about 5 or 6 openings, then it fell off. Now it won't stay on.

Help!! I know it is not major, but it bothers me.

I accidentally popped mine off. I had to open the two plastic clips out a bit before it would stay on. I guess you could drill out the plastic pin and replace it with small bolt and some washers.

 

Mine popped off too, got tired of putting it back on, so just left it off. Seems to be alot of trouble to add screws and such. I don't go in it that much.

 

Someone mentioned a screw between the prongs or some kind of zip tie action awhile back somewhere upinheeya...........at least spread the prongs out without breaking them before putting it on & see if it stays. Mine wasn't even on when I got the truck & that's all I did to it & haven't had any issues since. Give it a shot........

 

The wonderful techs at Jiffy Lube screwed mine up checking the cabin air filter. Then they wanted to make it all better by offering me a $40.00 deal to replace the filter......

I used the "screw fix" on mine and it works great.

Take out the glove box, open up the prongs a bit, put the dampener back on the prongs (on the dash part, not the glove box), insert a small pan head screw (about 1/4" long) between the prongs until it's snug, reinstall the glove box, and hook the dampener to the glove box.

 

Thanks Rocketball. I think I will try your solution. I considered doing this, but I wanted to hear from someone who did it already.

 

I fixed mine with a 3/8" (I think) washer. put the dampener on, then put the washer on.

 

Good idea....Although, my 'male' end is what's screwed up.

Damn plastic chincy crap!!

 

That's were the "screw fix" idea will work. That is, if the prongs are still there.

Is it hard to get the screw on and off when you change your cabin air filter?

 

yah thing is a piece of crap. its IN my glove box rather than helping.. i'll try the screw thing

 

I think I might try and slide a small cotter pin over the male end after the dampener is on. I guess when I have time, I just need to stop talking about it and do it!

mine came off too and if i try to put it back on it stays until the nest time i open it

 

so THAT'S what that damn thing is!! it wasn't attached when I bought my truck used, and I couldn't figure out what it was for!
