Ike was prez when I was born, and my first full time job payed $1.65 an hour.
You could buy a hershey bar for 5 cents and a 16 ounce bottle of coke (in a thick glass bottle) for 15 cents. OK I've made myself feel old, I'll stop now:rolleyes:

Yeah, but at least it was completely out of your hands. Now you have to wonder whether to get the new dishwasher cause the old one broke down, or if you should save that money because you might lose your job tomorrow.

I was in college working at a service station (yes, they use to call them service stations) when gasoline went over $1.00 for the first time. I went out to change the price sign and had a problem - the sign had two places to hang numbers to the right of the decimal but no way to hang a number to the left of the decimal...

You could get 108 octane leaded fuel at the gas station. We bitched because it cost $1.20 a gallon.

    Regular leaded was $.63.
