    This is much improved. You were able to bring out the details in the shadowed areas without blowing out the highlights. iPad eh? This is getting into Adobe territory.

    What is the name of the app? Is it an Adobe app?

    I think some people make too much of these so-called rules. So much so, they will disregard a good photo because it does not fit the rules. I know most of you guys to not work with histograms (I'm sure Lisa does), but I've seen photographers claim if the histo is to far to the left or right, they wont use the photo. What a shame! Many good photos would be lost if everyone did this. Take this photo by farmerjon, i'll bet the default histo is way over to the left or possibly split left and right with very little middle. A good photo editor can fix this. Welcome to the digital age. :D



    IMO, shooting in RAW is the key to being able to effectively manipulate a photo like this without making it look like its been manipulated.

    For me that is important. I'm trying to faithfully reproduce what I saw through the viewfinder, not re-create an art piece like a painter.

    I use the histogram as a guide sometimes and other times I ignore it completely. Pics with snow in them would never get used if I paid too much attention to the histo. RAW is awesome! Its like photography for dummies...as long as the pic is in focus you can fix pretty much everything else with a RAW file :laugh: Trust me, I know :eek:...few years ago on a Teton trip my camera got switched to a florescent white balance and all of my pics looked like they had been taken looking through a bottle of windex! Thankfully I had RAW files and was able to make them look normal again.

    Not saying it's a law. Rules are ment to be broken. But he was complaining about it being offset. And I think it's nice to offset the subject everyone and then. I do it a lot cause most the time I'm more concerned with the background of the view then my truck in a situation like that lol

    Thanks mike. Believe it or not it's a free app. Aviary. I fiddled with a few other pics too and got some stuff to really clean up. But it's not above crazy. I have that too but you have to buy all the little add ons for the cool stuff. I don't want to pay for it. Would rather pay for Lightroom or PS and a real camera.

    Interested to see for my self how raw works out for me. Still want a 60D...

    No idea what histogram is. I just go for angles and 3thrids or triangles mostly.

    So I had the wonderful experience of going wheeling with some FJs last Sunday. We went up mineral basin which is not a very hard trail but to them they thought it was. Just kinda interest. Those guys are a little bit different honestly. Half the group bugged out at the first obstacle.
