QUICK RESPONSES ON A TUNDRA

SO I Currently have a damn nice 2005 Toyota Tacoma D cab TRD Sport 4X4 blacked out the whole 9. I am averaging about 13mpg's with bigger tires and a little 2" lift. I have found a slick '07 Tundra Crewmax 4x4 a guy is willing to sell for $16.5k , it has 110k miles. My worry is the miles on the 5.7, I have never worried about the mileage on my Tacoma because their rep. But on a huge V8 do they have the same life span? I like the double size interior space etc. and have our 2nd kiddo on the way, please let me know if I am making a mistake or if I should keep the Taco. Thanks

 

I don't know. My dad is on his 3rd tundra right now and he likes them. But I'd rather have my smaller tacoma. Plus he's not really the kinda person to rack up mileage real quick anymore so I can't tell you anything about the longevity of the 5.7 motor. Although his old tacoma from way back (85 I think) had 340k on it before we gave it to my cousin and my moms corolla had 156k on it before she traded for a new rav4. So if Toyota is still making them like they used to I believe you'll be alright.

Something to think about though is, is your tacoma paid off and if you trade with another kid on the way, financially, would you be able to afford everything without getting to far under? I'm not telling you what to do but I've saw it happen before. Just trying to give you the best advice I can.

 

I think as long as you take care of it like you should. it will last a long time. IMHO thats what really kills engines. also with toyotas rep, i’d say you would be fin. unless the guy has not done stuff when he should have.(oil changes spark plugs ect)

My brother has an ’11 tundra with the 5.7 but it has under 30K and it’s just the double cab not the crew max.

IMHO(agin) i would do it if you can afford it. with having another kid you will be very happy with the extra room inside. I have had my 2 cousins in my back seat in car seats and there feet were touching the back of the seats and everything. they were 3 and 2 at the time.

 

Yeah my Tacoma is paid off and I could actually sell it for more than I can get this Tundra for lol. SO I would be making a little $ on top of it. SO of course Tundra would be paid off too. My main worry would be losing the nimble aspect of the Tacoma, and the offroad capabilities not that I have ever taken it off road lol, but those are my worries.... size not fitting in garage etc.

 

Well then I'd say you've already thought a lot about this. Which do you think you'd be happier with and would benefit you the most?

 

lol if you knew me and how indecisive I was you'd tell me to just figure it out already. I love the way the Tundra drives compared to the Tacoma.... I just have that weird Tacoma fetish with my truck.... as do most on this site....

All the modern Toyota truck engines (4.0, 4.6, 4.7, 5.7) are durable enough. The 5.7L is also used in the Land Cruiser and LX570. Maintenance makes more difference than engine design at that milage. Does the previous owner have all the maint. records? What was his oil change interval?

 

Yes he does. Always serviced at the dealership

 

If that motor has been maintained....you will be good to go for a LONG time! And I am not generalizing as if I was talking about any vehicle.....the 5.7 is an amazing engine
