Any update on this? Mine just started doing this. I get a slight hint of sweet coolant scent through the air vents for the first minute or so after initial startup. I do not smell any coolant in the engine bay or see any signs of a leak. The radiator is topped off, but the overflow tank is about half full (could use a top-off; last top-off was probably five years ago). Any ideas about what causes this?

I'm only at 54K miles but over 7 years, so I may do a complete flush and see if that clears it up.

My '12 has the slight coolant smell from the driver's side grill when hot as well. No coolant loss, I check it frequently. Slight residue where overflow tube connects to overflow tank. Going to clamp it and see if that fixes it.

My '11 has the same smell. I noticed it the first time about 2 months ago, at about 29k miles. Couldnt find any residue, and the coolant level is good. :notsure:
OP anything ever come of it from corpo?

My 11 and 2012 have the same smell, I see some white dried Antifreeze around the hose for they overflow.

THey do not have clamps on them and just slide on.
I think a zip tie or hose clamp will fix it.

My dodge diesel had the same problem, it does not take much just a drop from time to time and a little heat. The new stuff has a stronger smell then the old stuff they were using 10-15 years back.

Just chiming in, i have the same smell. 35k miles on my 2012 and it does smell outside the front of the engine all the time. It does not smell in the cab.

My 2010 also had the smell but it did eventually go away after 60k miles or so.

My 2013 Tacoma (11,000 mi) has the same hint of antifreeze smell and no leaks and levels are fine. Thinking its another characteristic of the Tacoma 4.0L

I think what you are smelling is a hot aluminum radiator many cars/trucks do that my 11 does and it has not lost a drop of antifreeze in 31K

I have a 2011 Tacoma and I have the same smell. My wife has a 2011 Toyota Rav 4 and it too from day one had that same smell. I took it to the dealer and they told me the same thing. I have been keeping an eye on both of them. The leaves are always the same and no leaks. Which is a good thing!! I really don't care for the smell but as long as there is no leak then I can deal with it. I think its the new coolant that Toyota is using these days and the smell is coming from the overflow tank vent. Just my $.02

Wife and I took the truck in for second oil change and they smelled coolant . Dealer pressure test the system and all was good no problems was told maybe venting system smell. Anyways it's been looked at twice now no probs.
