Me thinks Paula should have had a better coach before going on the Today show. After all she did have a week to prepare.

Being held hostage for crap you said 20 years ago is pretty lame. Most of us have moved on from the 1980's. Just saying.

This  Sample lyrics when Queen Latifah was a rapper:
    "I got them hoping and praying for a great white hope, but all they come up with is great white dopes; clumsy honkies. . . . you're shit, whitey. . . . let's play a game; it's called, pin the tail on the honkey. . . . kick his ass; kick his ass; yoh, Apache, you really fucked that white kid up. . . . sometimes I feel like that about white folks";
"A Fight"; Apache, Apache Ain't Shit, 1993, Tommy Boy Music, Time Warner.

So she's a movie star & recently performs at the White House. Deen can't perform on the Food Network. What's wrong with this picture?

Don't disagree in the least. Looks like we're stuck with what we've got though, at least for a while. The pendulum swings, ever so slowly. In the meantime spitting into the wind isn't the brightest of ideas...

I think things are really getting outta hand! If I call an African American the "N" word I am a racist but I hear them calling each other the "N" word regularly! Does that make it alright? They call us honkies but yet we don't call each other honkies do we. I am thinking of starting a cable channel called WET to give BET a run for their money:D...I don't consider myself a racist buuttttt I do believe in what is "Good for the goose is good for the gander" even though our Government and courts don't think so!!!!!!:rant::rant::rant::crapstorm:

This seems like a good place (age) to pass this on. A couple of Fridays ago was getting in the Taco to head to Dallas ( wife already at daughters). A wasp hit me on top of my head and stung like crap. Now like most of you I get popped every couple of years (as late as last summer) and go right on with whatever. This time was different. I got in the truck and started down drive ( about 250 feet) and this has been about 3 or 4 mins from hit. Got to the bottom and could tell something not right and needed to go back to house and sit down. The next thing I remember is not being able to get out of truck and could not figure out why. The next thing I remember was paramedics coming to my bed. Found I had driven a brand new DCSB Off Road 4X4 into trees on my drive doing about $5k damage to a 500 mile truck. Had some how driven to within a foot of the house and got out and into the house. Where this story ties into you guys is after 6 hours in ER they told my this is not uncommon at all as you age and take some Rx's you become a candidate for Anaphylactic Shock for the first time. The second time could very well be worse. So now my new BFF is an Epi Pen. If it was 3 more min's I would have been on I-35 and ??? Just saying as you get older do not drive for a while after getting stung.

    Morning all:
WOW! I can relate to that.
Yrs. ago I was stopped at a stoplight and felt something land on my head. Went to brush it off, and WHAM-felt like something smashed my finger with a sledge hammer. Then I saw it; a wasp.
I guess it was a knee jerk reaction, but I let my foot off the clutch and the car just lunged a few feet and stalled. Lucky there was no car in front of me and that I still had my other foot on the brake.
    Never expected that!
No reaction to the sting though, just hurt for awhile.

Your post is good to know, and keep in mind. I've been lucky so far, but one day I'm going to get stung by yellow jackets and can only hope I don't end up with a reaction like you experienced!
Sorry to hear about the truck, but at least you're OK!

Thanks for the heads up. Glad you are recovering. The truck can be fixed.

On another note I am worn out.

Good morning all. Your wayward 58 year old interloper here. To say the past few months have been "interesting" is an understatement.

First off, continued health issues with my mom and Lynn's dad. No drastic changes but a steady downhill slide for her dad and constant small issues, appointments, needs with my mom. All 3 of them are in their 80s and we help care for them. As an example, I spent 5 hours in the ER with my mom last Friday just to convince her, as I had told her days earlier, that she pulled a muscle in her groin.

On the weekends, we've been trying to get various projects completed here on our property. Added to the 6 hours of grass cutting each weekend, and other requirements, we've been swamped.

As many of you know, I'm president of a small two-year private college...my retirement job...now coming up on the end of my first year. For the past 3 years, we've been trying to negotiate a new contract with our faculty union. Going into the president's position (I was with the college for 8 years before that) we knew that we were at an impasse and would, without some significant movement by the union..or at least some honest engagement...we would be forced to impose the contract. We did that in February of this year. In April, the union and it's parent union, filed two complaints with the NLRB claiming we'd violated law and were retaliating against a union leader. We've gone through the ringer several times as the parent union used its connections to get press coverage and support from other unions. Finally, just Thursday and yesterday afternoon, the NLRB notified us and them that it was dismissing both charges for lack of merit - vindicating our college administration and what we've been doing. Great news....finally.

WHile we had the normal crush of issues at the end of the semester, we had a devastating event just two weeks before commencement. One of our students was murdered - shot in the street - just across from one of our dorms. The victim was an African-American male from out of town with the media and public immediately jumping to stereotypical, and wrong, assumptions. It was a literal zoo to deal with.

I was very fortunate to have spent 24 months commanding an Army battalion and never having to bury a soldier. Never would I have imagined I would find myself as a college president standing in a morgue, holding a mother's shoulders as she sobbed over her dead son's body.

We spent the next week trying to focus on the victim's family, our students and staff while managing the information flow and correcting media crap. In the end, it turned out our student was walking past a group of kids on his way to get some food after going to a party off campus. He happened to look at one who challenged him - words were exchanged and then the other kid pulled out a handgun and shot our student. The bravado of youth gone terribly wrong.

That led us directly into our graduation - our largest group ever by more than 80. On top of the normal events, we welcomed the victim's family and presented an honorary degree to her for her son. I am proud to say that within 5 days of the murder, we forwarded the mother a check for $5000 that was donated by our faculty and staff.

So, that's the short story of where I've been. There's more but it all blurs into the bigger events.

    Mark
