I've found out on these forums that each Toyota region seems to have some what different tricks to program the alarms, fobs, ect.. You might add what region your in and others might speak up. Other wise maybe the dealer yet.

    www.programyourremote.com states for a 2006 Tacoma:

    1. Start with the key out of the ignition. Open the driver door (all other doors are closed). Driver door is unlocked (other doors don’t matter).

    2. Perform these steps within 5 seconds
    a. Insert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) Pull key out
    b. Insert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) Pull key out

    3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds
    a. Close, then open the drivers door.
    b. Close, then open the drivers door.
    c. Insert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) and pull it out.

    4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds
    a. Close, then open the drivers door.
    b. Close, then open the drivers door.
    c. Insert the key into the ignition and leave in the ignition.
    d. Close the drivers door, Turn the ignition to ON (as far as you can go without cranking the engine), then back to off .
    e. Remove the key from the ignition.

    5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should lock then unlock automatically indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.

    6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds
    a. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 1.5 seconds
    b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should lock then unlock once indicating successful programming. If the door locks cycle twice, repeat steps 6a and 6b as the remote was not accepted.

    7. Open drivers door

Hope this helps, I've come across the need for this type of programming on other vehicle before and I have referred to this website with success before.

So, what does this do? Just let you use a new remote?

What I'd really like is some way to automatically lock the doors when truck is put into gear.

Hope this can help you out. Its kinda long.

For 2001+ Tacomas equipped with a factory alarm or keyless entry, here are some programming options that allow you to adjust the way your locks work.
The first programming option allows you to set the entry unlock to: (A) unlock the driver door with one push, and the remaining doors with a second push OR (B) unlock all of the doors with a single push.
    1. Open the driver's door. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
    2. (Complete these steps within 40 seconds)
    A. Insert the key into and remove it from the ignition switch 2 times.
    (IN - OUT - IN - OUT)

    B. Close, then open the driver's door 2 times.
    (SHUT - OPEN - SHUT - OPEN)

    C. Insert the key into and remove it from the ignition switch 1 time.
    (IN - OUT)

    D. Close, then open the driver's door 2 times.
    (SHUT - OPEN - SHUT - OPEN)

    E. Insert the key into the ignition switch and leave it in.
    F. Close the driver's door.
    G. Turn the key from LOCK to ON 4 times, ending at LOCK
    (LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK)

    H. Wait for the locks to stop, then remove the key from the ignition switch.
    3. On the key fob, press and release both LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time.
    A. [For all doors unlock] press and release the UNLOCK button.
    B. [For driver door unlock] press and release the LOCK button.
    4. Open the driver's door. The programming is complete. If programming did not occur, start over.

The second programming option allows you to set the doors to lock when when the key is turned on, and unlock when the key is turned off.
    1. Open the driver's door. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
    2. (Complete these steps within 30 seconds)
    A. Insert the key into the ignition switch.
    B. Close, then open the driver's door 2 times.
    (SHUT - OPEN - SHUT - OPEN)

    C. Turn the key from LOCK to ON 5 times, ending at ON
    (LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON - LOCK - ON)

    3. Programming option (select one of the following).
    A. [Ignition controlled lock ON] Close the driver's door.
    B. [Ignition controlled lock OFF] Close the driver's door twice, leaving it closed.
    (SHUT - OPEN - SHUT)

    4. Turn the key to LOCK. The programming is complete. If programming did not occur, start over.

When performing the programming, the park lights may or may not flash to confirm that the program was accepted. The only way to confirm the programming is to test them to see if they are functioning as desired.

Sorry I posted the wrong one, and after you brought it to my attention I then realized that when I sold my previous 2002 Prerunner and bought this one I deleted the old codes but actually I deleted the ones for the second gen tacomas. I just wasn't paying attention sorry again.

Talked to a Gulf States tech. awhile back and he ran my vin. # and told me the following:
I have the S6 security upgrade on the sticker. This is the 3200 system. He told me there are only 3 things you can program on the 2nd gen. trucks with this system. This is the 20 sec. headlight on or off feature during the arming, and or, disarming of the system with the fob. The other is passive automatic arming of the system. The ignition on, door lock or ignition off, unlock is no longer an option with this security system or by programing the trucks main computer. It is just not available now. This is on GST trucks anyway. As stated in another thread I would have just gone with the keyless entry which came with my TRD truck and the new chiped key given the amount of options in programming this system for the cost. Understood. I've got a Gulf States truck, but no alarm, just the TRD keyless entry. I'm looking for programming for that.

Is there a way to get the horn to beep when it locks? Mine is silent, but it locks the doors and the lights flash.

I've read everything - It appears this is it. However I'm posting anyway - JUST in case The 09's are different. There are some differences between the 08's and 09's. For example VSC is a standard now. Maybe the the remote programming has changed too.

Does anyone have the keyless remote programming instructions for the 2009 Tacoma? I have the standard keyless system that comes with the offroad package. No alarm, just vehicle anti theft system.

There are a few options I miss from my Silverado (You dont miss em until they are gone):

    1. Marker lights go on when truck is remotely locked and unlocked
    2. Doors auto lock when truck in put into drive or auto lock when truck hits 5 to 10 miles per hour

It appears the above is not available on the Tacoma???

I also miss my automatic headlights. However with the Tacoma if you leave the lights on they will go off when the key is off and removed. So its kinda auto headlights.

    Still love the truck though.
