Hey your setup looks like mine, I tow something different but I never before see I truck so much like mine, of course GREAT setup!!!.

i have an 06 tacoma with 6" lift and 35's and i pull a 21 ft center console boat that weighs around 3500 Ibs would that be an issue?

I very much suspect that towing a 3500# boat with a truck running 35" tires will be an issue. At best it will get horrible gas mileage and at worst it will not do the truck any good. A truck set up with oversize tires will either look cool or be used for offroad, but if you want to tow heavy with it the truck will perform much better set up differently. A 6" lift and 35" tires will not work very well for towing other than light loads. Tacomas are light-duty trucks, not meant for loads a full-size truck would be suited for, especially set up in a way which puts the drivetrain at a disadvantage.

 

should I downgrade to a 33 tire or get it regeared?

 

How does the truck pull your boat now? If you're OK with it the way it is, then fine. Probably it is not pulling the boat near as well as it could with the proper size tires on it or re-geared quite a bit lower. Trucks set up for serious offroading are typically not going to work near as well as a truck set up for towing. And vice-versa. But a truck with a mild lift and [resaonable] tires will pull OK as long as you know it is not a full-size truck and try to drive it that way. My truck is a 4wd with 265/70/R17 tires and a 6-spd manual (geared lower than the automatics) and a V6. It pulls my boat (around 2100 pounds with full gas tank etc.) very well except it still struggles up steep grades and I have to get in fourth gear to get up those inclines. It may be rated for 5600 pounds but I feel like if I tried to tow those kind of loads with this truck it would tear it up. I did not get this truck to tow heavy so it's OK. The manual trans truck does seem to tow my boat a lot better than the '07 with auto did. That truck was not a 4wd but was a long-bed DC pre-runner. It gets better mileage towing than the auto did...unfortunately the auto got a lot better mileage unloaded than my new one does.

 

Looking at what some guys here tow with their trucks, my boat does not seem to be that much of a load!

 

i've had no problems towing "heavier" loads. just maintain a safe and gas economical speed and you should be ok. also be aware of your gears when your towing. if your truck is revving high or searching for gears...downshift. never tow in D.

 

Ok yea i figured id just pull it in 3rd or 4th and it would be ok... Nice boat!

Heres what i tow ,,with no problems..I know it is back there but im comfortable towing it.

 

Here is our rig, bike,wash water,power washer,trailer ready for weekend and Tacoma does just fine, good hitch and brake controller, no sway control and not needed.
12mpg (don't care about gas mileage, nice to be not sleeping on ground or being at dusty track without a shower.............)

Bought this recently - planning on taking the engine (1.6 diesel) out and putting it in a Samurai. Needless to say the Taco pulled it fine.

 

Just pulled a Mastercraft x15 today. Boat prob weighs close to if not over the max limit of the tacos capacity.
