    Electric. Top side connections are leaking a little bit so that may have resulted in the electronics burning up if some water leaked down on them. It's an electric water heater. Tank it's self doesn't seem to leak but its 13 years old. I'm in the process of getting natural gas into the house, but there's no way I could get it done soon enough to replace the water heater with gas. I'm going to pick up a $300 50 gallon 6 year electric water heater from Home Depot tonight so I can get hot water going. Then when all the gas lines are ready ill work on replacing the water heater with a gas one.

    If you are going with natural gas down the road I wouldn't waste the money on a new electric water heater. Just go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy the elements and thermostat I might cost you about $30 or $40 but it will be like new again.
