Creationism vs. Evolution

That doesn't really matter because all of the important stuff is there either way.

 

Have you read those 12 books? "Important" seems pretty subjective.

 

I heard something about pyramids. I guess this is where i tell you aliens built it. or it was built as a power plant. or there ware no evidence of tooling or how they got the massive granite into the middle. or something.

 

The Genesis record of Adam's unique creation. The Old Testament genealogical records place his life at about 4,000bc...

... and the 195,000 year old archeological evidence of homo sapiens remains.

That's the defining difference between a morally accountable man and amoral humanoid animals. I'd swear that there are people who are still trying to devolve back into them.

 

Our every thought is subjective because we are subjective beings who can only react subjectively to either love or hate objective truth.

Every bit of that is completely unbelievable. Not one bit of it makes sense. If someone came up with a story like that in this day and age and tried to pass it off as fact then they would be locked up in a padded room and heavily medicated... either that or your name is Ron L. Hubbard and you start a new religion equally as unbelievable. But that just goes to show how gullible people are.

so by worshiping and praying and paying money to the church you still get cancer and die? (please dont think of me as insensitive as Im not trying to be mean in any way. Im not trying to single you out) That is one of the reasons I have a problem with a "higher power". Why so much pain and suffering and death? Why are children allowed to be raped and murdered? I could go on all day about all the bad shit in the world.

People always say "god is love. and god is peace". Hmmm Ive sure never seen it. Im pretty sure he is the biggest serial killer of all time (if god is real). The bible is full of death and destruction. Look at your own words about Noah. God wiped out the entire planet!!! thats a lot of people dead. Sodom and Gomorrah? killed everyone in two cities...

Contradictions and more contradictions. Even in Genesis, the first story... Adam and Eve had a son and god tells him to go out and reproduce... Who the hell is he going to reproduce with? Monkeys? Or where adam and eve not the first two people?


One last thing about evolution. Why do christians always say "well why didnt all the monkey evolve"? Maybe because they are a different species.

Who said we did? Micro evolution is happening all the time. There is a certain bird species that has developed a smaller wingspan to make it more maneuverable on the highway to keep from getting hit by cars. (thats just one example)

Macroevolution takes a long time. More time than you or me have. thousands, millions,billions of years. I know thats a hard concept for a lot of people.

Since everyone dies from something it's not unfair. It's just part of life.

Much of the pain and suffering is self inflicted and is a consequence of chosen lifestyles. Some isn't, and is just part of living. How we choose to respond to it is what makes all the difference.

You can't rightfully blame (unjustly accuse) God for people who freely choose to do evil when everyone is given the same free choice to do good. It's perfectly fair.

It's more constructive to make the world around you for which you are personally responsible as good as you can.

The book of Genesis contains two contradictory accounts of humanity’s creation. The first account is known as the Priestly version and appears in Genesis 1:26-27. Here God fashions man and woman simultaneously instead of the man first and then the woman. The text reads: “So God created mankind in the divine image, male and female God created them.”

The second account of creation is the Yahwistic version. It's found in Genesis 2. This is the version of Creation that most people, including most Christians, are familiar with. In this account God creates Adam, then places him in the Garden of Eden. Some time later, God decides to make a companion for Adam. So he creates land animals and birds to find out if any of them are suitable partners for the man.

God brings each animal to Adam. Adam names each animal but ultimately decides that none of them would be a “suitable helper.”

God then causes Adam to fall into a deep sleep. While he's sleeping God takes a "rib" from his side and fashions Eve from it. When Adam wakes up he recognizes Eve as an extension of himself, "bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh," and accepts her as his life long partner.

The ancient rabbis noticed these two contradictory versions of Creation in the book of Genesis, so they reconciled these divergent accounts by saying the first version of Creation referred to Adam’s first wife, Lillith, whom they called a 'first Eve.' According to ancient rabbinical thought, after they'd had many children and the earth was widely populated, Adam became displeased with Lillith. So God replaced her with a 'second Eve', a woman that more nearly met Adam's needs.

The answer to your question is that the book of Genesis tells two different versions of Creation, which if taken together as the ancient rabbis did, but people today largely ignore, explain (among other things) how, when Cain moved away after killing his brother Able, he so readily found a wife , a woman not his sister.

Bottom line: These Creation stories are entirely allegorical.

These stories were intended to give those who listened to them a mythical/spiritual structure on which to build an understanding of the world that made sense in the context of the age and time they lived.

Such Creation Myth stories were commonplace in the ancient world. They were not literal hard factual accounts of what actually took place as the world came into being. Instead they were simply myths used to provide nations and peoples a common thread of belief from which political and religious order might be structured and maintained. As such they served and continue to serve, as we see all too well today, their intended purpose.

Catholics must have incorrectly identified some books as inspired by god that the Hebrews didn't.

Then to show that they really didn't like the Catholics, Protestants said "we would rather agree with the Jews on this" and eliminated what was once God's own words.

Not clear why multiple times on this thread presumably non-catholics making the claims that the catholics got rid of a bunch of books?
