I guess that's what it sounded like but personally no. I believe in God. I was justing trying to view it from the side of a nonbeliever.

 

That's because you don't understand the non-believer when you say "what is there to lose." That's like asking someone who doesn't believe in slavery to just go along with it because they happen to be on the lucky side that owns.

In every church I've ever attended or studied I've never seen it say "Just say you believe so you can make it to heaven in the end" There's usually all kinds of stipulations and tithing etc.

I really wouldn't know because I was never there at an older age. Sounds like you have been to some pretty messed up churches. People place a lot of time and trust into the church when really it is just about a relationship with yourself and God.

 

When did you decide between the two ?

 

If you're asking when did I put my faith in Christ, I was around 5 years old.

 

How many "thousands of books" does it take to understand that men, not God, wrote the Bible, and the stories they told reflected what they thought happened? ..After all, that's all that recorded history, Biblical or otherwise, is, ..those in power telling others what they think took place.

 

How were you old enough to chose between the two at that age ?

 

I don't know how it was for him in his situation, but it's hard to explain.

You get this feeling inside of you that something/somebody is telling you to let go, give everything to Him. Give up your sin and let Him lead you down the right path.

It's really complicated to explain, but it's an amazing feeling of relief and joy when it happens.

 

I know it sounds young, but I was raised in church and I have lived my life like that. It was tuff when I got older because I asked myself that same question. It got to the point where I questioned my faith daily (I was like 14 years old at this time) so I eventually just recommitted my life to him and made sure without a doubt.

 

Were you taught about God and Jesus as a kid ?

Not really, only went to church maybe 2-3 times a year up until I was about 10.

Then we went to a local church for maybe 2-3 years off and on, which was when I was saved. Some stuff went on with my family and we stopped going to church...

When I was 16, I went every once in a while on Wednesdays and Sundays. But I was not going down a good path at all.

It wasn't until I started dating my current girlfriend that I started going to Church again. Now I'm back with God and living a much happier life.


So to answer your question, no I did not grow up in on of those go to church every chance you get Christian families. I made the decision by myself.

Is the scientist's belief in a multiverse more credible?

By the way, is there anyone here who has actually argued that the Earth is 6,000 years old? If there was I must have missed it.

Just an off topic side note...

That verse was referring to the Old Testament because the New Testament did not exist when that was written. In fact at that time it might have only been referring to what the Jews call the Torah (first 5 books).

But nevertheless that verse is true.
