Now that's a good point. I agree with you that it should be about your relationship with your god. In saying that, I think you will see why so many people develop a bad taste in their mouth for religion and religious people. They tend to care way to much about my church and my god, my beliefs, whatever that may be.

I also agree that people put WAY to much trust into churches, or organized religion. Most churches today are corrupt. All you need to do is look at the largest church in the world and all of it's fabulous cover ups.

 

That's the truth. The only I would suggest to someone is to find a church they like and feel comfortable with, but also has a pastor that preaches the truth because that is most important.

For around 2000 years people have been claiming it is near.

And they'll always say its near. A lot of those prophecies have been fulfilled already I history, which I believe is why people say that. Scripture is also VERY clear that no man knows when. So when you here someone say 'doomsday is coming!' They're right, it is approaching, simply because time moves forward.

 

That is the most useful thing that I can contribute to this thread because every time I get halfway through composing a response I get flustered.

Arguing an irrational topic with a logical and rational argument is somewhat moot.

Why is it that the REST of the Bible is to be taken LITERALLY, yet the final book everyone INTERPRETS as allegory?

I don't jive well with that. Either it's all true or it's all allegorical. Which is it?

Perhaps there is a verse in Rev. that says "by the way, feel free to interpret this however you see fit to make it suit your needs," but I don't remember one.

The Bible doesn't explain how to cook French fries either. That's because it's neither a physics textbook or a cookbook.

It's books about our personal moral accountability for our own actions.

 

So you don't take the Bible as a literal , historical text ?
