Drum squeek

I replaced my drums some 30k miles ago and ever since then when I do light braking they sqeek like a dsmn air brake. Anyone else's do this?

 

Clean, Lube and Adjust them there rear drum brakes.

 

What do you think I did when I replaced? I have a manual so they adjust everytime I use the hand brake. Its def the shoes vibrating against the drum. Sometimes it happens when I don't have the brake pedal pressed.

 

Probably forgot to lube or you've hit some decent water since you did the brakes and there is a little water intrusion/noise.

I've been riding on squeaky brakes for awhile, I'm lazy. They were cool until I ran through some water, back to squeaky.

 

I worked in a shop for 4 years, i know what needs to be greased on a shoe assembly to ensure that squeeking doesn happen. Also I live in Phoenix Arizona, no moisture in the desert. So why don't you do us both a favor and stop wasting our time because you obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

 

My 2010 started to make noise recently. Not the grinding worn out noise but a light squeal / squeak some times with light pedal pressure.

Have not done anything yet.

Did read about some folks having a TSB accomplished to stop this.

Thanks PK, that's what I was wondering. Do you by chance have a link to the tsb? I can actually feel the vibration through the pedal when it starts to squeel.

 

Mine just squeaks when going in reverse after one full wheel rotation only when applying breaks. Wtf lol

On my end, guess what, I work in a shop to. Between working on an S10 (Starter, Radiator, Belt), the 95 Eldorado from hell (oddest noise on right turns only, starter was engaging with the flywheel making a card in bike spokes noise), An auto trans R & R on a 02 Civic and recharging my sisters AC today, by the time I got to your 2nd post in this thread, the 2nd half of it was seen, but didn't register.

However, you should know, having worked in a shop and all, that CORRECT information needs to be provided for a proper diagnosis.

I'm sorry my diagnosis was not up to your standards, but when I was provided with incorrect and not enough information on a car that I certainly can't test drive....shove a stick up your butt.

I won't be an ass if you help me with my problem he he any clue what's the deal with mine. Just sounds like normal break squeal but only after one full rotation while going in reverse with breaks being applied. I can go reverse with no breaks and hear nothing.with breaks applied it only squeaks once it seems once it rotates to that same spot. Seems weird. Any input would be cool. I work on my stuff myself but breaks are e only thing I suck with. Failed at bleeding my motorcycle breaks trying to get the air out and since then I'm weary to mess with breaks in anyway

 

You're ti red of my shit, lmao. Cool story guy, yu were provided with correct information. You had all the information you needed. Squeel under light load. That would cancel out non normal breaking conditions. My location is on the left so your second response could have been avoided all together. Instead of assuming maybe you could have asked a few more questions like I did When I worked in Mercedes full time and avoided this.

 

Check your rear most u-joint. Mine did the same thing when it was going out. I thought it was my rear brakes until I got under the truck and had my brother -very slowly- back it up- a squeak every full rotation. Changed my u-joint and noise is gone.

I will just say that the rear drum brakes on these trucks are shit for breakdowns, making noise, etc.

Mine froze in place overnight this past January after a little moisture intrusion. Resulted in the e-brake not releasing and the shoes warping nex time I applied the stop pedal. Replaced them, mic'd the drum to ensure it wasn't fucked, and the damn things have made some noise ever since. Before anyone asks, yes, they were properly adjusted, lubed, etc.

They sound like shit but they work. I will say this for the Tacoma; it's a truck and it likes to sound like one. squeaks, clacks, pops a plenty when you actually use it for something other than a glorified Camry. Holds up though.

 

I would like to remove my rear drums to clean out all the accumulated brake dust. Does anyone know the size of the bolt needed to back off the drum from the axel?

 

Instead of speculation and ruffled feathers, I have a suggestion, why not remove the drums and check your handywork, just in case something is amiss...I have reassembled stuff I thought was right, then found out otherwise...

I doubt it is your driveline u joint, not affected by brake pedal pressure....

 

I think this is the tsb number: T-SB-0236-12 for the rear brakes.

 

No bolts hold on the drum... and I readjusted mine and sanded down the pads, bus stop noise is gone

 

I posted too soon, they did not make noise up until I got home tonight. Looks like I need new drums and shoes to fix the issue, wearing a groove in the shoes and not wearing evenly.
