Don't do it IMHO. Its looking more and more like I may have to do a failure analysis this fall on the bushing probably due to the CV shaft's bearing running surface being rough-milled from the factory. I reused the CV shaft and now wish I had not as I believe it is eating the bushing. The part of the CV shaft that rides in the bushing should be nice and smooth and shiny like a crankshaft journal.

Thanks for the reply, you changed my mind. How many miles have you put on the bushing? What kind of symptoms are you having that would indicate a bushing failure?

I have around 10k miles on mine now. Awhile back I started to monitor the "slop"(deflection) in the tulip part of the CV right where it enters the bushing after grabbing it one day and noting that it seemed to be rather loose. I am using a simple dial gauge and stand on the floor and the magnetic base of the stand sits on a small piece of sheet metal to stabilize it. The deflection has been increasing rather rapidly. No noise or rumbling just an increase in free play (droop) at this point.

If you have followed any of my other posts about this I do not believe it is a problem with the bushing at all but rather the running surface of my factory CV joint advancing the wear rate in the bushing.

The running surface on the CV was very rough-milled during production as though it was done very quickly like a once-over with a lathe that had something wrong with it. Anyway, the milling made dozens of successive peaks and valleys that you can feel with your fingernail and are quite visible. It should have gone to the reject pile during production at the factory; similarly I should have sent it to the reject pile when I had it out.

I bought a new OEM shaft and its running surface is flawless and mirror-like.

On a positive note, Texoma posted yesterday in a different thread that he now has 47k miles on his bushing without issue.

I just went to autozone and picked up a remanufactured cv axle .The bearing surface looks good .I kept my old axle for now incase I go to CVJ for an axle later, they want an original toyota axle for exchange.

And if it says "Safe for LSD" that's okay too. Basically, you don't add a LSD additive.

Thanks for the information on diff oil.
I got restless waiting on the bearing puller to arrive in the mail and decided to make one.Required a lot of grinding but it worked perfectly. see aattched pics of the home made bearing puller and old CV axle and new CV axle from autozone.

What is the best way to seat the oil seal in the diff?
What is the best way to put the seals on the new CV axle?
    Thanks

A bunch a cool stickers, a bada ass MetalMiller Tx Longhorns grill emblem painted Hemi Orange, JBA long tube headers with o2 sims, Diff breather mod, Red LED interior lights, Fancy head unit that plays ipod n movies, Also DIY install factory stuff like, factory cruise control, factory intermittent wipers, OME nitro struts with 886x springs and toy tec top plate, JBA high caster UCA's for better alignmnet and dey beefier too, Old Man Emu Dakar leaf springs in da rear with the gear, U bolt flipper, Ivan Stewart TRD rims with 33" K Bro 2's, some bad ass weather tech floor liners so I don't muck up my interior, an ATO shackle flipper for mo travel in da rear wit the gear, also super shiny Fox 2.0 shocks back there too, all sorts of steal armor for bouncing off of the rocks like demello sliders, AP front skid, trans skid, n transfer skid, demello gas tank skid, and a tough as nails ARB bumper with warn 8k winch, I'm sure there's more
A hammer and a flat punch will work good for both. Just have to make sure they are seated evenly all the way around. Another way to seat the diff seal is to use a piece of pipe, either 2 3/4" or 3", I forgot what size exactly, but just measure the seal. Good luck

This thread discouraged me from buyin a Tacoma about seven months ago.A few weeks ago I hit a bear on the interstate and totaled my Ranger. The Tacoma(4wd,Manual,reg cab,2.7) I just bought will arrive at the dealership tomorrow. After I do the obligatory first mods(tint, stereo), I'm gonna order the ECGS bushing, 5100's and an AAL kit.
Has anyone in Central KY replaced or had the needle bearing replaced with the bushing?

Just instaled the ECGS bushing, new cv axel and seal today. What a difference, no vibe! Took about 3 hours. I don't know why I waited so long to get this done. Driving around for months with that stupid vibration. If ya got the vibe, don't wait just order the parts and put em in.
And a big thanks to East Coast Gear for coming up with the solution to the problem.

I replaced the CV axle and put and seal after I put the oil in the diff a small stream began pouring out at the seal .

Pulled the cv back out and don't see what is wrong with the seal. When installing the seal should it bottom out on the housing or just be flush with the outer lip?

The cv axle also still had quite a bit of play in it .

When turning the shaft I can also still hear some clicking noise .

    Help

Also what is the best way to get the oil seal out of the diff?

I pried the first one out with a big screw driver ... it did not come out easily.
